Imovan is a drug widely used in medicine as a hypnotic, tranquilizing and anticonvulsant. The country of origin of the drug is France. The drug is used exclusively on the recommendation of a doctor, but even in this case, for safe therapy, you must carefully read the instructions for use of Imovan.

General information about the drug

Imovan belongs to the class of hypnotic drugs, but its structure differs from barbiturates and benzodiazepines. The action of the drug is aimed at suppressing the central nervous system, therefore the medication is widely used to treat insomnia.

Repeated or long-term use The drug may cause tolerance and dependence.

In this case, when the drug is discontinued, a withdrawal state may be observed, characterized by loss of strength, nervousness and low performance.

Release form and prices for the drug, average in Russia

The medicine is available in the form of oral tablets, which are sold in pharmacies only with a doctor's prescription. They're covered film-coated, have an oval shape, white color and a line on one side. The tablets are packaged in blister packs of 10 or 20 pieces. Blisters are packed in cardboard boxes. One box contains one blister. The drug should be stored at room temperature and can be used for 3 years.

The price of Imovan varies slightly in different pharmacies and regions of Russia.

Compound

One tablet of Imovan contains 7.5 mg of the active ingredient zopicone. The drug also contains auxiliary components:

  • wheat starch;
  • calcium hydrogen phosphate;
  • magnesium stearate;
  • titanium dioxide;
  • Dipromelose.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

The medication belongs to list No. 1 potent drugs PKKN belongs to the group of cyclopyrrolones. His pharmacological action manifests itself in the provision of sleeping pills, sedatives, muscle relaxants and anticonvulsant effect. These effects are due to a specific agonistic effect on GABA receptors, which inhibit the transmission of nervous excitation.

Among the effects of the drug are the following:

  1. Increased sleep duration and significant improvement in its quality.
  2. Reducing the time to fall asleep.
  3. Reduce awakenings in the middle of the night.
  4. Elimination of sleep disturbances in general.

In patients who suffer from insomnia, after taking the drug, there is a significant reduction in phase I sleep (drowsiness, transition from wakefulness to sleep) and prolongation of phase II (phase deep sleep). Along with this, the preservation and extension of phases III and IV is observed.

Imovan is quickly absorbed regardless of food intake. Highest concentration in the blood is achieved 1.5 hours after taking the drug. Imovan binds weakly to proteins in the blood, so the risk of interaction with other medications taken at the level of protein binding is very low. Repeated doses of the medicine do not contribute to its accumulation in the body. The half-life of the drug is 5 hours. The clearance of Imovan is predominantly metabolic.

Indications and contraindications

The medication is indicated if the patient has the following conditions:

  • insomnia of a chronic, situational or transient nature;
  • difficulty transitioning to sleep;
  • frequent night and early awakenings;
  • sleep problems due to mental disorders.

Types of night sleep disorders

The medicine is not intended for long-term use, as addiction may develop. Available absolute contraindications before taking this medicine:

  • sensitivity or intolerance to individual components of the medication;
  • autoimmune neuromuscular diseases, which are accompanied by rapid muscle fatigue;
  • difficulty breathing;
  • severe apnea;
  • renal and liver failure;
  • lactase deficiency.

Patients with drug and alcohol addiction The medication should be used with caution and only as prescribed by a doctor.

The use of Imovan is not recommended during pregnancy (the child may experience difficulty breathing and hypotension) and during lactation. If the drug is prescribed to women reproductive age, the doctor is obliged to warn that if you are planning a pregnancy, taking Imovan should be discontinued. Pediatric practice does not provide for the use of this drug, so the effect the drug has on children's body not researched.

Instructions for use

Imovan tablets are designed for oral administration. The course of treatment should be as short as the patient’s condition allows. As a rule, it does not last longer than four weeks, and subsequent extension of treatment is possible after consultation with a doctor.

The duration of treatment with Imovan depends on the type of insomnia for which the drug is mainly prescribed:

  1. For situational insomnia, the medicine is used for no more than 3 days.
  2. At chronic insomnia you need to follow the recommendations of your doctor.
  3. For transient insomnia (may be caused by short-term stress or emotional overload), you can take the drug for no more than 5 days.

The optimal dose for an adult is 7.35 mg (one tablet). Elderly people (over 65 years of age) and patients who have difficulty breathing should not be given a dose greater than 3.75 mg. The recommended dose should not be exceeded to avoid the risk of overdose. The drug should be discontinued gradually, slowly reducing the dose.

The time to take Imovan is immediately before bedtime. The medicine should be taken only once a day and not repeated if there is no effect. Caution must be exercised and used only as prescribed by a doctor for people with alcohol and drug addiction.

Special instructions when taking Imovan

Long-term use of the drug can provoke the development of psychological and physical dependence. The risk of its occurrence is especially high if the patient has anxiety state, alcoholism and uncontrolled dose increases.

Abrupt cessation of taking Imovan in this case causes withdrawal syndrome - deterioration of the patient’s condition or increased manifestation of the symptoms for which the drug was prescribed. Withdrawal symptoms are characterized by tremors, sleep disturbances, numbness in the extremities, and irritability. In this regard, the amount of medication taken should be reduced gradually.

It is important to take the drug before going to bed and rest for at least 6 hours, because if there is a long time gap between going to bed and taking the medicine, amnesia may develop.

Imovan is not intended for the treatment of depression and should not be used if the patient has such a disease, since this medication hides its symptoms, but does not cure it. When taking Imovan, you should limit activities that require concentration and attentiveness. Due to possible blurred vision, double vision and lethargy, it is not recommended to drive or engage in business activities.

Drug interactions

The drug is not compatible with alcohol, and it is undesirable to use it with caffeine.

Possible side effects and overdose

Taking the drug may cause several side effects. Among them:

An overdose of Imovan can manifest itself in such conditions as severe drowsiness and coma, depending on how much the dose was exceeded. Non-life-threatening consequences are apathetic state, drowsiness and loss of coordination.

However, the weakened condition of the patient, the presence serious illnesses, taking other drugs with similar composition and alcohol can greatly aggravate the situation. In more serious cases overdose, severe respiratory depression is observed, a persistent decrease in blood pressure, ataxia and coma.

In case of overdose, gastric lavage is possible, but it will only be effective if it is carried out immediately after taking the medicine. Therefore it is necessary to call ambulance and provide the patient inpatient treatment. If there is no help in case of an overdose, death cannot be ruled out.

Similar means

Imovan has several effective analogues. They all have a similar composition, effect, contraindications and side effects. The form of all analogues is tablets for oral administration. The most famous and effective analogues Imovana are as follows:

Instructions for use

Directions for use and dosage Imovan

Treatment should be carried out as short as possible and not more than 4 weeks. Increasing the treatment period is possible after re-evaluating the patient's condition. The drug is taken before bedtime.

Duration of treatment transient insomnia- from 2 to 5 days, situational insomnia - from 2 to 3 weeks. At chronic insomnia The doctor determines the duration of the course of treatment individually.

Treatment of elderly patients, patients with impaired liver function or chronic pulmonary insufficiency start with a dose of 3.75 mg and, if necessary, increase it to 7.5 mg.

U patients with renal failure It is recommended to start treatment with a dose of 3.75 mg, despite the fact that in this pathology the accumulation of zopiclone and its metabolites was not detected.

Side effects Imovan

Most often: bitter taste in the mouth.

From the side of the central nervous system: dizziness, headache, residual drowsiness after awakening, possible anterograde amnesia; rarely - nightmares, irritability, confusion, hallucinations, aggressiveness, confusion, depressed mood, poor coordination of movements, depressive state, inappropriate behavior With possible development amnesia.

From the outside digestive system: dyspepsia, nausea, dry mouth; in isolated cases - slight increase activity of liver transaminases and/or alkaline phosphatase in the blood serum.

Allergic reactions:itchy skin, rash; extremely rarely - angioedema, anaphylactic reactions.

After stopping treatment: withdrawal syndrome, which manifests itself various symptoms such as rebound insomnia, anxiety, tremor, increased sweating, agitation, confusion, headache, trembling, tachycardia, delirium, nightmares, hallucinations, irritability; very rarely - seizures.

Almost all medications have side effects. This usually occurs when taking medications during maximum doses, when using the medicine for a long time, when taking several medications at once. Individual intolerance to a particular substance is also possible. This may harm your body, so if the medicine makes you sick side effect, you need to stop taking it and consult a specialist.

Overdose

Symptoms: varying degrees CNS depression from drowsiness to coma, depending on the amount of the drug taken. In mild cases, drowsiness, confusion, and apathy are observed. In more serious cases - ataxia, arterial hypotension, respiratory depression, coma.

An overdose does not pose a threat to life unless combined with the use of other drugs that have a depressant effect on the central nervous system (including alcohol). Other risk factors such as concomitant disease and the weakened condition of the patient can increase symptoms and even (very rarely) lead to death.

Treatment: Gastric lavage is effective only if performed soon after taking the drug. If necessary, symptomatic and supportive therapy in a hospital setting is recommended. Special attention should be given to maintaining respiratory and cardiovascular system. Hemodialysis is not very effective due to the large V d of zopiclone. Flumazenil can be used as an antidote.

An increased inhibitory effect on the central nervous system is possible with simultaneous administration of the drug Imovan ® with antipsychotics, sleeping pills, tranquilizers, sedatives, antidepressants, opioid analgesics, antiepileptic drugs, anesthetics, antihistamines With sedative effect, as well as with erythromycin.

Taking Imovan ® reduces the plasma concentration of trimipramine and its effect.

When co-administering Imovan ® with inhibitors of the CYP3A4 isoenzyme (erythromycin, clarithromycin, ketoconazole, ritonavir), the plasma concentration of zopiclone may increase.

When simultaneous administration of the drug Imovan ® with inducers of the CYP3A4 isoenzyme (including rifampicin, carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin), a decrease in the concentration of zopiclone in plasma is possible.

Very significant information that is not always taken into account when taking medications. If you take two or more drugs, they can either weaken or strengthen each other's effects. In the first case, you will not get the expected effect from the drug, and in the second, you risk getting an overdose or even poisoning.

A hypnotic drug from the cyclopyrrolones group. It has the following pharmacological properties: hypnotic, sedative, tranquilizing, anticonvulsant and muscle relaxant. These effects are associated with its action on the CNS receptors related to the macromolecular GABA complex, modulating the opening of channels for chloride ions.

Zopiclone has the ability to reduce the time to sleep and the frequency of night awakenings, increase the duration of sleep and improve the quality of sleep and awakening.

There is no addiction to the hypnotic effect of the drug during long period treatment up to 17 weeks.

Pharmacokinetics

Suction

Zopiclone is rapidly absorbed. Cmax in blood plasma is reached within 1.5-2 hours and is approximately 30 and 60 ng/ml after oral administration of 3.75 mg and 7.5 mg, respectively. Absorption of the drug does not depend on gender or food intake.

Distribution

The binding to plasma proteins is approximately 45%.

Metabolism

After repeated prescriptions, accumulation of zopiclone and its metabolites does not occur.

Interindividual differences are insignificant.

The main metabolites are the N-oxide derivative (pharmacologically active) and the N-desmethyl metabolite (pharmacologically inactive). T 1/2 is approximately 4.5 and 7.4 hours, respectively.

Removal

At recommended doses, half-life of unchanged zopiclone is approximately 5 hours. Zopiclone is excreted in the urine (approximately 80%), mainly in the form of metabolites; approximately 16% is excreted in feces.

Pharmacokinetics in special clinical situations

In elderly patients, despite a slight decrease in metabolism in the liver and an extension of T1/2 to approximately 7 hours, no accumulation of the drug in plasma was detected even with repeated administration.

In patients with renal failure, accumulation of zopiclone or its metabolites was not detected even after long-term use.

In patients with liver cirrhosis, the clearance of zopiclone is reduced by approximately 40%, consistent with a decrease in dimethylation.

Release form
