Indications for use

Disinfection of the oral cavity and pharynx for inflammatory and infectious diseases- tonsillitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis-pharyngitis, tonsillitis, glossitis, aphthae; when preparing a patient for surgery and postoperative period; for the treatment of oral infections arising during chemotherapy, as an additional agent to antibiotic therapy for sore throats caused by streptococci, in influenza conditions in the prodromal period.

Contraindications

The drug is contraindicated in hypersensitivity to iodine or other components of the drug, with hyperfunction thyroid gland, with decompensated heart failure, with renal failure, it is contraindicated to use the drug 2 weeks before and after studies or radioactive iodine therapy.

The active substance penetrates the placental barrier and enters mother's milk, therefore the drug is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation.

Yox spray is contraindicated in children under 8 years of age.

Pregnancy and lactation

Pregnancy

Experience local application There is no povidone-iodine in the oral cavity of pregnant women. At vaginal use povidone-iodine, or when applied topically to the skin during pregnancy or childbirth, congenital hyperthyroidism or struma has been detected in newborns, therefore the use of Yox during pregnancy is not recommended.

Lactation

Iodine passes into mother's milk. It was found several times in the blood and urine of newborns more iodine than their mothers who used povidone-iodine. High concentration in serum can cause hypothyroidism in newborns. For this reason, Yox is contraindicated for use during lactation.

Directions for use and doses

Adults and children over 8 years of age:

Usually applied 2-4 times a day, if necessary, more often (every 4 hours): 1-3 injections into the right and left side oral cavity or directly to the affected area. The interval between individual applications of the drug should be at least 4 hours. The drug can be used a maximum of 6 times per day. The dose of the drug is determined by the attending physician. Do not inhale or swallow the sprayed solution!

Remove the protective cap and install the applicator. Press the applicator 2-3 times so that the solution enters the sprayer and sprays after pressing. After this, place the applicator tube 2-3 cm into the oral cavity, hold your breath and press the cap twice so that one irrigation is carried out to the right, and the second to the left. The applicator is washed with hot water before and after use.

Side effect"type="checkbox">

Side effect

The drug is well tolerated.

IN in some cases hypersensitivity reactions to the drug are observed, possibly local manifestation allergic reaction on iodine (itching, hyperemia, urticaria), which requires discontinuation of the drug. Rarely, mainly in children, a short-term burning sensation or a feeling of dryness in the mouth appeared at the application site.

Overdose

There is no experience of overdose with proper local use in the mouth or pharynx.

When using iodine solution orally, it is possible acute poisoning iodine

Symptoms: At first, patients notice a metallic taste in the mouth, vomiting, pain in the stomach and stool disorders. Within 1 - 2 days, anuria, swelling of the glottis leading to asphyxia, aspiration pneumonia or pulmonary edema manifests itself. In some cases, vascular insufficiency was observed.

Treatment is purely symptomatic; first, standard measures are taken to stop absorption from gastrointestinal tract. The victim is given milk and boiled starch. If the esophagus is not affected, then gastric lavage can be performed. Then he is appointed activated carbon and 1% or 5% sodium thiosulfate solution, which reduces iodine to iodide. The elimination of absorbed substances can be accelerated by osmotic diuresis. Experience with dialysis similar situations not described in the literature.

Interaction with other drugs

It is not advisable to use the preparation fn Yox simultaneously with other antiseptics, intended for local O use in the mouth and throat, especially those containing hydrogen peroxide.

The use of Iox leads to false-positive results of stool analysis for occult blood. When studying the function of the thyroid gland, the amount of protein-bound iodine may increase.

Features of application

For laryngitis, the drug can be used only if absolutely necessary.

To quickly cure cough, bronchitis, pneumonia and strengthen the immune system, you just need...

Yox - a widespread combination medicine, and Yox spray instructions for use contain instructions that this is a throat preparation with iodine, which has an antiseptic effect and has a pronounced antibactericidal and antimicrobial effect.

Yox is used for diseases of the mouth and throat, as well as in ENT practice. Produced in the form of a spray and solution.

Spray composition

The spray is based on a povidone-iodine complex.

Substance povidone- this is a sorbent, thanks to which the gradual release of active iodine occurs.

Second active ingredient drug - allantoin (contains 0.03 grams). It has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and regeneration-stimulating effects.

Additional substances in Yox spray:

  • Levomenthol;
  • Ethanol (about 25% volume);
  • Citric acid, its sodium salt;
  • Binding component;
  • Water.

The spray has the smell of alcohol and menthol, characteristic brown, taste of iodine.

Yox spray is available in glass and plastic bottles of 30 milliliters.

Yox is not an aerosol: the product does not contain a propellant. Spraying is done by pressing a mechanical sprayer.

Indications for use of the spray

The effectiveness of the drug is determined by the bactericidal properties inherent in iodine:

  1. When Yox comes into contact with the mucous membranes of the mouth or throat, iodine is released from the povidone-iodine compound.
  2. By interacting with microbial proteins, iodine causes them to coagulate, which leads to the death of microorganisms.
  3. The substance destroys bacteria, fungi, viruses, and protozoa.
  4. Microorganisms that cause respiratory infections, are not able to form resistance to the substance.

Other active substance Yoxa - allantoin - stimulates restoration processes, ending up in the mucous membrane.

According to the instructions for use, Yox is indicated for:

  • Sore throat (in combination with other medications);
  • Pharyngitis;
  • Infectious processes that affect the oral mucosa;
  • In the postoperative period;
  • For preoperative treatment.

Due to its irritating effect, the product effectively eliminates sore throat.

The instructions for use contain instructions that the drug can also be used in the treatment of superinfections that occur during therapy with antibiotics, antitumor, antiviral, and antifungal drugs.

Contraindications for use and precautions

Yox spray should not be used for the following contraindications:

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding;
  • Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug;
  • Increased thyroid function;
  • Heart failure;
  • Children under 6 years old;
  • Herpes form of dermatitis.

In case of laryngitis, only a doctor can prescribe the remedy.

The medication should be used very carefully in patients with renal failure.

When irrigating and rinsing, it is better not to swallow Yox.

Avoid contact of the spray with mucous membranes, and if the product gets into your eyes, rinse them thoroughly with cold water.

Yox tends to stain the mucous membranes of the mouth and teeth, and stains can be removed with ethanol.

How to use the product?

Spray application:

  1. If the bottle with Yox has a removable applicator, you should remove it from the packaging and then put it on the sprayer, having previously removed the protective cap.
  2. Press several times until the iodine preparation begins to spray.
  3. Caution should be exercised: if the drug gets on clothing, it leaves permanent marks.
  4. When using, you need to hold the bottle only vertically.
  5. Insert the applicator tube shallowly into your mouth and point it to the left.
  6. Hold your breath.
  7. Press the spray applicator once.
  8. Send to right side spray tube.
  9. Click once.
  10. Remove the applicator after completing the procedure and rinse with warm water.
  11. If a non-removable spray device is installed on the Yox bottle, steps 2-9 should be followed.

The spray can be sprayed as needed 2-5 times a day.

Instructions for children

Such measures are based on objective grounds:

  • The drug contains alcohol;
  • When spraying, you need to hold your breath;
  • Yox spray has an increased ability to irritate the mucous membrane of the throat.

However, the product has a significant advantage that makes it preferable to other antiseptics: Yox spray does not contain antibiotics or synthetic antimicrobials.

Iodine is a natural antiseptic and, in addition, takes part in metabolic processes.

Thus, there is no harm from Yox - provided that the child does not have hyperthyroidism.

Pregnancy and lactation

According to the instructions for use, Yox cannot be used during pregnancy and lactation. There have been no studies on the effect of the drug on children, but two components - alcohol and iodine - are absorbed from the mucous membrane.

The amounts of these substances in a spray dose are microscopic. However, the same iodine, for example, is a highly active substance, daily requirement which even in pregnant women does not exceed 0.2 milligrams. A whole bottle contains about 14 milligrams of iodine.

Despite the ban on the use of the product, doctors prescribe it during pregnancy:

1) Firstly, the substance iodine is deposited in the body: about 10 milligrams are stored in the thyroid gland, another about 5-7 milligrams are stored in other organs. The absorption of the substance from the drug is insignificant: such an amount cannot affect the balance of iodine in the body. Oversaturation of the body with iodine occurs as a result of prolonged and systematic use of drugs or foods rich in iodine.

In this case, oversaturation expresses itself with obvious signs:

  • The appearance of a metallic taste,
  • Edema,
  • Increased salivation
  • Allergic manifestations.

The use of Yox cannot lead to overdose.

2) Iodine is still necessary for a pregnant woman. In areas where consumption of seafood rich in this element is low, iodine intake is required for the health of the unborn child and pregnant woman.

3) Thirdly, Yox spray based on iodine is an extremely effective drug.

Taken together, the above factors indicate that the benefits of using the drug outweigh the possible negative consequences.

The restriction on use for lactating women is explained by the fact that the mammary gland is also involved in storing iodine. Thus, nature provided for the substance to be supplied to the child through mother’s milk.

Interaction with other drugs

Yox is not allowed to be used in parallel with radioactive iodine.

Side effects

Yox is usually very well tolerated, but among adverse reactions can diagnose allergies, manifested by hyperemia and itching. With prolonged use, excessive salivation, development of throat swelling, xerostomia, and a metallic taste are possible.

Analogs of Yox spray

The medicine does not have exact analogues containing povidone-iodine and allantoin.

2 available in pharmacies medicines based on iodine (release form - solution and spray), which can be used for respiratory diseases:

Iodinol

Lugol exists in Lithuanian and Russian versions. Iodinol - drug Russian production. Active ingredient in both cases iodine appears.

In Lugol, the substance is mixed with glycerol, which gives the drug an enveloping effect. Iodinol is a water-alcohol solution of iodine.

Which is better - Yox or Lugol?

Two fundamental differences should be highlighted:

  • Lugol - aqueous solution with glycerol;
  • Yox is an aqueous-alcoholic solution of the povidone-iodine complex.

These differences allow us to make the following comments about the benefits of these drugs.

Benefits of Yox:

  • The presence of iodine in combination with povidone promotes a longer antimicrobial effect;
  • Alcohol solutions are considered more effective antiseptics than water solutions.

Lugol's advantages:

  • The absence of alcohol in the composition makes the spray more appropriate for use in children;
  • The substance glycerol makes the product viscous, the liquid envelops and remains on the mucous membrane for a long time.

In addition, Lugol has a more affordable price.

However, consumers who have used both drugs prefer Yox.

Pharmacokinetics

When polyvidone-iodine is applied topically to intact skin and mucous membranes, iodine absorption is minimal. Iodine in the body is converted into iodides, which accumulate mainly in thyroid gland. Iodides that are not captured by the thyroid gland are excreted mainly in the urine, a small amount is excreted in feces, saliva, and sweat. They pass through the placental barrier and enter breast milk.

Armacodynamics

Povidone-iodine, upon contact with the skin and mucosal membranes, releases organic iodine,which has a wide spectrum antimicrobial action regarding bacteria, fungi, viruses, protozoa.The drug also contains allantoin, which has an anti-inflammatory effect.

The antimicrobial effect of iodine is the result of its direct effect on proteins of microorganisms.
