PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION

Antiviral and immunomodulatory drug. Interferon synthesis inducer. The active substance is sodium salt copolymer of (1?4)-6-0-carboxymethyl-?-D-glucose, (1?4)-?-D-glucose and (21?24)-2,3,14,15,21,24, 29 ,32-octahydroxy-23-(carboxymethoxymethyl)-7,10-dimethyl-4, 13-di(2-propyl)-19,22,26,30,31-pentaoxaheptacyclo dotriaconta-1,3,5(28), 6.8(27), 9(18),10, 12(17), 13.15-decaene.

Causes the formation in the body of so-called late interferon, which is a mixture of alpha and beta interferons with high antiviral activity. Kagocel causes the production of interferon in almost all cell populations involved in the body's antiviral response: T- and B-lymphocytes, macrophages, granulocytes, fibroblasts, endothelial cells. When one dose of Kagocel is taken orally, the interferon titer in the blood serum reaches maximum values after 48 hours. The body’s interferon response to Kagocel administration is characterized by prolonged (up to 4-5 days) circulation of interferon in the bloodstream. The dynamics of interferon accumulation in the intestine when taking the drug orally does not coincide with the dynamics of circulating interferon titers. In the blood serum, the interferon content reaches high values only 48 hours after taking Kagocel, while in the intestines the maximum production of interferon is observed after 4 hours.

Kagocel when prescribed to therapeutic doses non-toxic, does not accumulate in the body. The drug does not have mutagenic or teratogenic properties, is not carcinogenic and does not have embryotoxic effects.

PHARMACOKINETICS

Suction and distribution

When taken orally, about 20% of the administered dose of the drug enters the general bloodstream. After oral administration, after 24 hours it accumulates mainly in the liver, to a lesser extent in the lungs, thymus, spleen, kidneys, lymph nodes. Low concentrations are observed in adipose tissue, heart, muscles, testes, brain, blood plasma. The low content in the brain is explained by the high molecular weight of the drug, which impedes its penetration through the BBB. In blood plasma the drug is found predominantly in bound form: with lipids - 47%, with proteins - 37%. The unbound portion of the drug is about 16%. With repeated daily administration of the drug, V d varies widely in all organs studied, with especially pronounced accumulation of the drug in the spleen and lymph nodes.

Removal

It is excreted mainly through the intestines: 7 days after administration, 88% of the administered dose is excreted from the body, including 90% in feces and 10% in urine. The drug was not detected in exhaled air.

Special instructions

To achieve a therapeutic effect, Kagocel should be started no later than the fourth day from the onset of the disease.

About half of this time occurs in November-December. IN given time year, the maximum spread of influenza and ARVI is observed.

Pace modern life V major cities require a person to save time and effort. Undoubtedly, the above diseases have a very unfavorable effect on health and general well-being. However, despite the fact that colds and flu are considered relatively benign diseases, preventing or alleviating these diseases is not an easy task. Once in the body, the virus multiplies quickly, causing a whole series symptoms: rhinitis, cough, headache, loss of strength and loss of general tone, hyperthermia.

Today, people increasingly need effective and convenient drugs that will prevent, or minimize and alleviate the course of the disease.

Humanity still does not have drugs at its disposal that can cope with viral infection with 100% efficiency. Today, antiviral medications are imperfect, but their number and variety are growing, and their effectiveness is increasing every year.

Russian antiviral drug Kagocel- this is another one domestic drug for colds, flu and acute respiratory diseases.

Most antiviral drugs sold in Russia have positive effect only when early start treatment (on days 1-2 of the disease). Kagocel, in turn, is effective at any stage of the disease. It not only alleviates and shortens the course of the disease, but also significantly reduces the likelihood of complications. In addition, the drug is safe and does not cause side effects (except for rare cases of allergic reactions). Therefore, it is approved for use in children over 3 years of age.

Kagocel was developed by the Nearmedic Plus company (RF), created on the basis of the Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology named after. N.F. Gamaleya RAMS. The drug was approved by the Russian Ministry of Health and Social Development as a medicine recommended for the prevention and treatment of acute respiratory viral infections, influenza, as well as for the treatment of pathologies associated with herpes virus infection. In addition, the drug was included in the list of vital and essential medicines, due to which it was included in the state system. procurement Produced since 2005. Available in pharmacies without a prescription.

Interferon inducers

Since the production of interferon is one of the first immune reactions against viral infection, stimulators of the production of this protein occupy a special place among antiviral drugs.

Interferon inducers do not cause an immune response and are not capable of causing an overdose. Once in the body, drugs of this group stimulate the production of interferons in optimal quantities.

Interferon inducers are divided into two groups: artificial and natural origin. The drug Kagocel, in turn, belongs to the second group. It stimulates the production of human body alpha, beta, and gamma interferons, which have a high antiviral effect.

Mechanism of action of the drug

Since during the manufacture of the drug active substance binds to the cellulose base, kagocel is practically not absorbed in the digestive tract (no more than 20% of the active substance is absorbed).

Kagocel enhances the activity of interferons (specific cellular proteins that protect the body from viruses) in the body.

By acting on the body, Kagocel induces the production of interferons in the body, which have a pronounced antiviral effect. The effect of the drug lasts 5-7 days. Due to the long-lasting effect of the drug, it is convenient to use it for the prevention of acute respiratory diseases and influenza in small doses, short courses and for any period of contact with the spreader of the disease.

Kagocel enhances the production of interferon in all cells that are part of the antiviral immune system: in B-cells, macrophagocytes, granular leukocytes, fibroblasts, endothelial cells.

However, the effect of Kagocel is not limited to the induction of interferon production. The drug also stimulates the release of cytokines, activates cellular immunity and natural killers.

The effect of the drug on the body lasts on average 5 days, during which the produced interferon circulates in circulatory system. At the same time, the active substance accumulates in the intestines 4 hours after administration. After a single use of the drug in standard dose the concentration of interferon in the blood increases significantly, reaching a maximum after two days. The maximum concentration of interferon in the blood persists for 2-3 days.

According to the results of numerous clinical trials, with repeated daily use of the drug, the active substance enters various organs and tissues in uneven proportions. A day after entering the body, most of the active substance is concentrated in the liver. Also, in small concentrations, the drug accumulates in the lungs, spleen, kidneys, thymus gland and lymph nodes. The drug accumulates least in muscle tissue, heart, adipose tissue, brain and blood. At oral consumption approximately 20% of the active substance enters the bloodstream. In the blood, 47% of kagocel is bound to blood lipids, 37% to proteins, 16% circulates in free form. The molecules of kagocel are quite massive, so it does not penetrate the blood-brain barrier, which prevents it from entering the brain. The drug is eliminated mainly through digestive tract. 6-7 days after completion of the course of treatment, approximately 88% of the active substance is removed from the body. In this case, 90% is removed through gastrointestinal tract, and 10% - through the kidneys. Excretion of the drug through the lungs has not been established.

Bird flu

One of the most promising methods for preventing avian influenza is vaccination and the use of interferon inducers.

Many scientists note that the above method deserves more wide application in therapeutic and clinical practice, incl. in the prevention of influenza and acute respiratory diseases. On at the moment There is not a single bird flu vaccine whose effectiveness has been proven in practice. Kagocel, by inducing the production of interferon in the body, enhances protection and helps protect against all strains of viruses. Therefore, in the event of a bird flu epidemic, this drug may serve effective means prevention of this dangerous pathology.

Prevention of influenza through vaccination provides protection only against the influenza virus, while the risk of acute respiratory viral infection is not reduced. Epidemics of influenza and ARVI often occur simultaneously. Meanwhile, influenza vaccination goes well with the use of interferon inducers, incl. Kagotsela. That's why complex application above methods provides more reliable protection from a viral infection.

Kagocel for children

Today this drug is widely used in the treatment and prevention of seasonal viral diseases in adults. But for children as therapeutic drug it is indicated only from 6 years of age, since to date there have been no clinical trials on children and pregnant women. In order to prevent influenza and ARVI, the medication is approved for children over 3 years of age.

The drug affects the child’s body in the same way as it does the adult’s body, because interferon begins to be produced in the body from the moment of birth. And Kagocel, in turn, simply stimulates the release of this protein in large quantities.

Interferon can provide great support to children during the ARVI epidemic season. Therefore, interferon inducers such as Kagocel should not be neglected - it will alleviate the course of the disease and reduce the risk of complications without causing any side effects.

Assessing the effectiveness of herpes treatment

This study was conducted by the Central Research Laboratory of the Omsk State Medical Academy

The herpes virus is one of the most common microorganisms that infect the human body. According to official statistics, approximately 90% of people living in cities are carriers of herpes viruses of various forms.

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the drug Kagocel in the treatment of herpes infection.

146 people took part in the study, among them 63 were men, 83 were women. The diagnosis of genital herpes was made in 115 patients, oral herpes in 31. Kagocel was used in the treatment in the form of tablets for oral administration (the active substance in 1 tablet is 0.012 g).

The subjects were divided into three groups: the first group was prescribed Kagocel exclusively, the second - Kagocel in combination with acyclovir, the third - exclusively acyclovir (standard treatment).

Patients with primary and recurrent herpes received the same treatment: two Kagocel tablets 3 times a day. The duration of the course was 5 days. Patients of the second group received the drug according to an identical regimen in combination with acyclovir in a standard dosage - 1 tablet of acyclovir (0.2 g) per day for 5 days. Patients of the third group received treatment with acyclovir according to an identical regimen.

Having compared the results of treatment, experts came to the conclusion that the maximum effect was achieved in patients of groups I and II. Symptoms of herpes completely disappeared on average on the 5th day in patients of the first group, and on the 3rd day in patients of the second group. At the same time, in patients of the third group, the symptoms of herpes were eliminated only on the 6th day after the start of treatment. When examined within next year after completion of the tests, herpes did not recur in 22.2%, 1-2 relapses were registered in 49.9%, and 3 relapses in 27.9%. Maximum effect was noted at complex treatment both medications: there were no relapses in 47.4% of patients, the rest (52.6%) had no more than two relapses. During the study and in subsequent periods, no side effects of the drug Kagocel were observed. Before use, you should consult a specialist.

The main mechanism of action of Kagocel is the ability to induce interferon production. Causes the formation in the human body of the so-called. late interferon, which is a mixture of alpha and beta interferons with high antiviral activity.

Stimulates the production of physiological amounts of interferon gamma. Causes the production of interferon in almost all cell populations involved in the body's antiviral response: T- and B-lymphocytes, macrophages, granulocytes, fibroblasts, endothelial cells.

When prescribed in therapeutic doses, it is non-toxic and does not accumulate in the body. The drug does not have mutagenic or teratogenic properties, is not carcinogenic and does not have embryotoxic effects.

For preventive purposes, the drug can be used at any time, incl. and immediately after contact with a source of infection.

Kagocel reviews

Compared to Arbidol, it is slightly more expensive: 220 rubles for 10 tablets. But as for everything else, the tone is in no way inferior to Arbidol. There are no contraindications other than allergies. Non-toxic and does not accumulate in the body. It is used for the prevention and treatment of acute respiratory viral infections and influenza. They drink it in courses, but as for myself, I drank it when I felt like I was starting to get sick. I took 2 tablets and the illness subsided. And if you do it right, it is recommended to take it as follows. Two days, 2 tablets once a day, 5 days break, then repeat the cycle. Reliably protects against flu and colds.

I have already tried Kagocel several times. very pleased. You really need to read the instructions. my daughter had purulent sore throat, temperature below 40. took two days, the first day 3 tablets 3 times a day, the second day 2 times a day 2 tablets. squeezed lemon juice V hot water, drank several times a day. They didn't drink anything else. By the evening there was no temperature, and on the second day there were no symptoms of the disease at all. That is, Kagocel fights the virus and side effects, such as temperature. Yesterday I felt very bad, temperature 38.2, chills, weakness. I also drank cogocel and lemon juice with hot water, today I went to work calmly, but I drank Kagocel for the second day. I feel great!

A wonderful drug. Last winter, the whole family drank as a preventative measure, and no one got sick. A friend drank for herpes, and for almost a year now she doesn’t remember what kind of infection it is. I recently bought it at the pharmacy, and the pharmacist said that Kagocel can now be taken by children from three years of age. It’s not written in the old packages yet, but she showed an official document about changes to the instructions.

Anyone who has had herpes knows what they are discomfort and how it ruins life, and if the sore appears 4 times during the winter, then it’s not funny at all. This happened to me. I began treatment with Kagocel on the recommendation of a doctor, the wound dries out quickly, burns and itches less. There have been no herpes so far this winter (pah-pah).

Kagocel is an antiviral agent that activates interferon biosynthesis. The medication is often prescribed by pediatricians for the treatment and prevention of influenza. Read detailed instructions by application, reviews of the product, find out its price and analogues.

Kagocel is a Russian medicine that was developed in 2003. Since 2005, it has been produced by NEARMEDIC PLUS LLC.

The only form of release of the drug is tablets for oral administration. There is no separate Kagocel for children or adults. The drug is produced in one dosage - 12 mg. Only the regimen for taking the medication changes depending on the age of the patient and the purpose for which it is taken.

The tablets are round, biconvex, light brown with darker brown spots. There can be 10, 20 or 30 pieces in one package.

Compound

The main substance of the medicine is called kagocel, it is obtained by combining a plant molecule with a nanopolymer.

The medication also contains inactive ingredients:

  • potato starch;
  • milk sugar;
  • E 572;
  • E 1201;
  • E 1202.

These components do not exhibit a therapeutic effect, but they can cause allergies, so if the child is prone to it, then parents should know the composition of any medication.

Principle of action and pharmacokinetics

Kagocel, entering the body, triggers the process of biosynthesis of α- and β-interferons, which cause the death of viruses. Their formation begins in almost all structures involved in the body’s antiviral response: monocytes, granular leukocytes, endothelial cells, T and B cells. After taking the medicine orally, the highest amount of interferons in the blood is achieved after 2 days and remains elevated for up to 4-5 days. Largest quantity interferon in the gastrointestinal tract is achieved 4 hours after the medication is taken orally.

When taken in recommended dosages, the medicine is non-toxic and does not cause mutations, cancer, or congenital deformities in newborns. The greatest efficiency from antiviral therapy can be expected if it began no later than the 4th day from the moment of infection. To prevent infection, Kagocel can be taken at any time, including immediately after contact with a pathogenic agent.

After oral administration, approximately 20% of the taken dosage of the medication enters the bloodstream. A day after the start of treatment, the active substance is deposited mainly in the liver and less in other organs: lungs, thymus, lymph nodes, kidneys, spleen. The medication has a large molecular weight, which makes its migration across the blood-brain barrier problematic and low levels are noted in the central nervous system. medicinal component. Its minimal amount is found in adipose and muscle tissue, heart, male gonads, and blood plasma. Only 16% is found in the blood plasma in unbound form. active substance, up to 47% of it is associated with fats and up to 37% with proteins. After repeated administration, Kagocel is most deposited in the lymph nodes and spleen. The drug is excreted mainly through the digestive tract: a week after the start of therapy, up to 88% of the dose taken is evacuated, while up to 90% is excreted through the intestines, the rest with urine.

Indication

Kagocel is prescribed for treatment acute infections viral etiology, including influenza. It is used for diseases caused by herpes viruses. Kagocel is prescribed in parallel with other medications for infections caused by rotovirus and enterovirus.
The medicine is used to reduce the likelihood of contracting influenza and other acute respiratory viral infections.

At what age can Kagocel be given?

In pediatric practice, the medication is used to treat children over 3 years of age. Kagocel should not be given to a child 2 years of age or younger. But it is not advisable to give the drug to older patients without consulting a pediatrician. Only a doctor can select a Kagocel treatment regimen for children depending on age and purpose.

Instructions for use and dosage

The tablets should be taken orally and the medicine should be taken regardless of food. The treatment regimen is selected according to the child’s age:

For children aged 3-6 years, Kagocel is prescribed for the treatment of viral diseases in the first 2 days, 1 tablet twice a day, then for 2 days, 12 mg once a day, the total duration of therapy is 4 days - 6 tablets.
Children over 6 years of age with viral infections are prescribed 1 tablet three times a day for the first 2 days, then for another 2 days - 1 tablet twice a day, a total of 10 tablets are required per course.

If the prescribed dosage is accidentally exceeded, the child should be induced to vomit and given plenty of fluids.

To achieve a therapeutic effect, you must start taking the medication no later than the 4th day from the moment signs of pathology appear.

Kagocel can be taken in parallel with other antiviral drugs, medications, and antibacterial agents.

So that the medicine does not lose its therapeutic effect, tablets should be stored in a dry, dark place, inaccessible to persons under 18 years of age, at a temperature environment no more than 25 degrees.
