Morning prayers in Russian (translation by Hierome Ambrose (Timrot))

Morning prayers

Rising from sleep, before doing any other thing, become reverent, presenting yourself before the All-Seeing God, and, doing sign of the cross, say:

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Then wait a little until all your feelings come to silence and your thoughts leave everything earthly, and then say the following prayers, without haste and with heartfelt attention.

And now enlighten my mental eyes, open my mouth to learn Your words, and to understand Your commandments, and to do Your will, and, confessing You with all my heart, to sing all praises. holy name Yours, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now, and always, and unto the ages of ages. Psalm 50

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your great mercy, and according to the multitude of Your mercies, cleanse my iniquities. Wash me from all my iniquities, and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my iniquities, and my sin is always before me. I have sinned only before You, and I have done evil before You, so You are right in Your verdict and just in Your judgment. From my very birth I have been guilty before You; I am a sinner from my conception in my mother’s womb. But You love the sincere in heart and reveal to them the secrets of wisdom. Sprinkle me with hyssop and I will be clean; wash me and whiter than snow I will. Return joy and gladness to my soul, and my bones, broken by You, will rejoice. Turn Your face away from my sins and cleanse all my iniquities. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a right spirit in me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and strengthen me with Your Sovereign Spirit. I will teach the wicked Your ways, and the wicked will turn to You. Deliver me from premature death, O God, God is my salvation, and my tongue will praise Your righteousness. God! Open my mouth, and my mouth will declare Your praise. For You do not desire sacrifice - I would give it - and You do not favor burnt offerings. A sacrifice to God is a contrite spirit; God will not despise a contrite and humble heart. Renew, O God, by Thy mercy Zion, erect the walls of Jerusalem. Then righteous sacrifices will be acceptable to You; then they will lay sacrifices to You on Your altar.

Creed

I believe in one God, the Father, Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, everything visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, begotten of the Father before the beginning of time; Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not created, consubstantial with the Father, through whom all things were created.

For us, for the sake of people and for our salvation, who came down from heaven and became incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and became human. He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered, and was buried, and rose again on the third day, as the Scriptures foretold. And ascended into heaven and reigns with the Father. And He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead; His kingdom will have no end. And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Life-Giving One, who proceeds from the Father, who is equally worshiped and glorified with the Father and the Son, who spoke through the prophets.

Into one Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the remission of sins. I hope for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the next century. Amen.

Amen.

Prayer 7, to the Most Holy Theotokos

I sing of the grace given to You by God, Lady, I pray to You to bless my mind. Instruct me to faithfully follow the path of Christ's commandments. Strengthen in wakefulness and singing, driving away despondency and sleep. Free the one bound by the chains of sin by Your prayers, O Bride of God. Preserve me in the night and in the days, delivering me from the enemies who rise up against me. You who gave birth to God, the life-giver, revive me, killed by passions. She who gave birth to the never-evening Light, enlighten my blinded soul. O wondrous palace of the Lord our God, create from me a house of the Divine Spirit. Doctor who gave birth, heal my soul’s long-term passions. Guide me, carried by the storm of life, to the path of repentance. Deliver me from eternal fire and from the horrors of the underworld. May I not be the delight of the demons, guilty of many sins. Create, Most Immaculate, a new man out of me, who has become decrepit from all my sins and transgressions. Deliver me from all torment and implore the Lord to everyone. Let me also join in the joy of heaven with all the saints. Most Holy Virgin, hear the voice of Your indecent servant. Grant me tears, Most Pure One, that cleanse the filth of my soul. I offer you lamentations from the bottom of my heart without ceasing, and I ask for your intercession, Lady. Accept my prayer and bring it to our good God. Surpassing the Angels, make me worthy of union with the heavenly world of the angels. Light-bearing heavenly cover, create spiritual grace in me. I lift up my hands and open my lips, defiled by filth, to praise the All-Immaculate One. Deliver me from the choking abominations, diligently beseeching Christ, to Him is due honor and worship, now, and always, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer 8, to our Lord Jesus Christ

My most merciful and all-merciful God, Lord Jesus Christ! Out of great love, You came down and became incarnate to save all people: I pray to You, Savior, save me too by Your grace. If you could save me for my works, it would not be Your gift and gracious love. O inexhaustibly generous and inexpressibly merciful! You said, O Christ and my Lord: “Whoever believes in Me has eternal life.” If faith in You saves those who are perishing, behold, I believe! Save me! For You are my God and Creator. Let my faith instead of works be credited to me, O my God, for You will not find works that justify me. But may my faith be in place of all the deeds that I have not done, may it answer, may it justify me, may it make me a participant in Your eternal glory. May Satan not kidnap me, may he not boast that he has torn me away from Your hand and protection. But either I want it or I don’t want it, save me, Christ, my Savior, quickly, send me Your help, so that I will not perish: for You are my God from my mother’s womb. Grant me, Lord, now to love You, as I previously loved the sins I committed before You, and to work for You without laziness, as before I worked for Satan, the seducer and deceiver. May I labor for You, my Lord and God Jesus Christ, all the days of my life, now and always, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer 9, to the Guardian Angel

Holy Angel, guarding my unhappy soul and my passionate life! Do not leave me, a sinner, and do not depart from me for my intemperance: do not let the evil demon possess me because of the weakness of my mortal body; take my sinful and fallen hand and put me on the path of salvation. O holy Angel of God, guardian and patron of my damned soul and body! Forgive me everything that I have offended You with all the days of my life, and if I sinned in any way this past night, protect me from this in the coming day, and save me from every temptation of the enemy, so that I will not anger God with any sin, and pray for me to Lord, may he strengthen me in His fear and show me worthy of His goodness. Amen.

Prayer 10th, to the Most Holy Theotokos

My Most Holy Lady Theotokos! Prayer 1, Saint Macarius the Great, to God the Father

Eternal God and King of all creatures, who has given me to live to this hour. Forgive me the sins that I committed on this day in deed, word and thought, and cleanse, Lord, my humble soul from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit. And grant me, Lord, this night a peaceful sleep, so that, rising from my humble bed, I may please Your most holy name all the days of my life and defeat the fleshly and incorporeal enemies who rise up against me. And deliver me, Lord, from vain thoughts that defile me, and from evil lusts. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and always and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer 2, Saint Antiochus, to our Lord Jesus Christ

Almighty, Word of the Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, You Yourself, being perfect, according to Your great mercy, never leave me, Your servant, but always abide in me. Jesus, good Shepherd of Your sheep, do not allow the demonic rebellion in me and do not allow the lusts of Satan to possess me: for the seed of destruction is in me. You, Lord God, whom we worship, Holy King, Jesus Christ, preserve me sleeping with unfading light, Your Holy Spirit, with which you sanctified Your disciples. Grant, O Lord, to me, Thy unworthy servant, Thy salvation on my bed: enlighten my mind with the light of reason of Thy Holy Gospel, my soul with the love of Thy Cross, my heart with the purity of Thy word, my body with Thy all-conquering suffering, preserve my thought with Thy humility, and lift up me at the proper time to praise You. For You are glorified with Your Father without beginning and with the Most Holy Spirit forever. Amen.

Prayer 3, to the Holy Spirit

Lord, Heavenly King, Comforter, Spirit of truth, have mercy and have mercy on me, Your sinful servant, and forgive me, unworthy, and forgive everything that I have sinned today as a man, and not even as a man, but worse than cattle: my free sins and involuntary, known to me and unknown; due to inexperience or evil calculation, hot temper or frivolity. If I have sworn by Your name, or blasphemed it in my thoughts; or I ridiculed someone, or slandered someone in my anger, or saddened, or got angry, or lied, or slept at the wrong time; or neglected the beggar who turned to me, or saddened my brother, or boasted, or became arrogant, or became angry; or during prayer my mind rushed to ungodly worldly thoughts; or indulged in lustful thoughts; either he overeated or got drunk, or laughed stupidly; either he planned evil, or at the sight of someone else’s good he became envious in his heart; or spoke obscenities; or laughed at my brother’s sin, but my sins are countless; or did not care about prayer; or did anything else evil - I don’t remember, because I did all this and more. Have mercy on me, my Creator and Master, Thy sad and unworthy servant; and leave me, and let me go, and forgive me, for You are good and philanthropic; May I lie down in peace, sleep and calm down, the prodigal, the sinful and the accursed, and I will worship, and sing, and glorify Your most honorable name, with the Father and His only begotten Son, now, and always, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer 4, St. Macarius the Great

What will I bring to You or what will I repay You, O rich in gifts Immortal King, generous and humane-loving Lord, for the fact that I, who was lazy to serve You and had not done anything good, brought me to the end of this past day, guiding my soul to conversion and salvation. Be merciful to me, a sinner and deprived of every good deed, resurrect my fallen soul, defiled in immeasurable sins. Remove from me all evil thoughts of this visible life. Forgive my sins, O only Sinless One, which I have sinned against You this day, in knowledge and ignorance, in word and deed and thought, and with all my feelings. You Yourself protect and save me from every attack of the enemy by Your Divine power and immeasurable love for mankind and strength. Cleanse, O God, cleanse the multitude of my sins. Deign, Lord, to deliver me from the nets of evil, and save my restless soul, and illuminate me with the light of Your face when You come in glory, and now let me sleep uncondemned, and keep the thoughts of Your servant without dreams and confusion, and all satanic deeds drive me away from me and enlighten the intelligent eyes of my heart, so that I may not sleep into death. And send me an Angel of peace, guardian and mentor of my soul and body, that he may deliver me from my enemies; May I rise from my bed and offer you prayers of thanksgiving. Yes, Lord, hear me, Thy sinful and poor servant, grant me, rising from sleep, to learn by will and conscience Thy words, and through Thy angels drive away demonic despondency from me: may I bless Thy holy name, and glorify and glorify the Most Pure Mother of God Mary which You have given to us sinners for protection, and hear Her praying for us, for I know that She follows Your love for mankind and does not stop praying. Through her intercession and the sign of the Honest Cross, and for the sake of all Your saints, save my poor soul, Jesus Christ our God, for You are Holy and glorified forever. Amen.

Prayer 5?i

Lord our God, forgive me everything that I have sinned today in word, deed and thought, as the Good One and Lover of Mankind. Grant me peaceful and serene sleep. Send Your guardian angel, protecting and preserving me from all evil, for You are the guardian of our souls and bodies, and we send glory to You, to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and always, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer 6

Lord our God, in whom we believe and whose name we call upon above every name! Give us, going to sleep, relief to soul and body, and save us from all dreams and dark passions. Stop the lusts of passions, extinguish the fire of bodily excitement. Let us live chastely in deeds and words, so that, leading a virtuous life, we will not lose the benefits You promised, for You are blessed forever. Amen.

Prayer 7, St. John Chrysostom

Prayer 8, to our Lord Jesus Christ

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, for the sake of the prayers of Your most honorable Mother, and Your disembodied Angels, Your Prophet and Forerunner and Baptist, the divinely inspired Apostles, the bright and victorious martyrs, deliver me from the attack of demons. My Lord and Creator, who desires not the death of a sinner, but his conversion and life, grant me conversion too, wretched and unworthy; save me from the jaws of the destroying serpent, eager to devour me and bring me alive to hell. My Lord, my consolation, for the sake of me, the accursed, you have clothed yourself in corruptible flesh, pluck me from accursedness, and give consolation to my accursed soul. Make my heart do Your commandments and avoid evil deeds in order to receive Your blessings. For I trust in You, Lord, save me.

Prayer 9, to the Most Holy Theotokos, Peter of Studium

To You, the Most Pure Mother of God, I fall, accursed, and pray: you know, Queen, that I constantly sin and anger Your Son and my God, and although I repent many times, I turn out to be a liar before God, and I repent, trembling: will the Lord really strike me down? And then I do the same thing again. You know all this, my Lady, Lady Theotokos, and I pray: have mercy, strengthen and grant me to do good. You know, my Lady Theotokos, that I hate my evil deeds, and with all my thoughts I love the law of my God; but I don’t know, Most Pure Lady, why I love what I hate, but don’t do good. Do not allow, O Most Pure One, my will to be fulfilled, for it is evil, but let the will of Thy Son and My God be done for everything; may he save me and enlighten me, and give me the grace of the Holy Spirit, so that from now on I will cease my evil deeds, and in the future I will live according to the commandments of Your Son, to Him belongs all glory, honor and power, together with His Beginning Father, and His Most Holy and Good and Life-Giving Spirit , now, and always, and forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer 10th, to the Most Holy Theotokos

Good Mother of the Good King, Most Pure and Blessed Mother of God Mary, pour out the mercy of Thy Son and our Lord on my troubled soul and with Thy prayers instruct me in good deeds, so that I may pass the remaining days of my life without blemish and through You I will find paradise, Virgin Mother of God, the only Pure One and Blessed One.

Prayer 11, to the Holy Guardian Angel

Angel of Christ, my holy guardian and patron of my soul and body, forgive me everything that I have sinned today. And deliver me from every deceit of the enemy who attacks me, so that I do not anger my God with any sin: but pray for me, a sinful and unworthy servant, to make me worthy of the goodness and mercy of the All-Holy Trinity and the Mother of my Lord Jesus Christ and all the saints. Amen.

Kontakion to the Mother of God

To You, the Zeal Intercessor, having been delivered from troubles, we, Your servants, sing a song of victory and gratitude, Mother of God. You, who have invincible power, free us from all troubles, so we call You: Rejoice, Eternal Virgin Bride.

Glorious Eternal Virgin, Mother of Christ our God, offer our prayer to Your Son and our God, may He save our souls through You.

I place all my hope in You, Mother of God, keep me under Your protection.

Virgin Mary, do not reject me, a sinner who needs Your help and Your intercession, for my soul trusts in You, and have mercy on me.

Prayer of Saint Ioannikios

My hope is the Father, my refuge is the Son, my protection is the Holy Spirit: Holy Trinity, glory to Thee.

It is worthy to glorify You, the true Mother of God, eternally Blessed and Immaculate and Mother of our Lord. With honor more honorable than the Cherubim and glory more glorious than the Seraphim, who immaculately gave birth to God the Word, we magnify You as the true Mother of God.

Glory, And now

Lord, have mercy. ( Three times)

Lord, Jesus Christ, Son of God, prayers for the sake of Your Most Pure Mother, our reverend and God-bearing fathers and all the saints, have mercy on us. Amen.

Prayer of Saint John of Damascus

Lord Lover of Humanity, will this bed really be my coffin or will you still illuminate my unfortunate soul during the day? Here the coffin is laid before me, and death awaits me. I fear Your judgment, Lord, and endless torment, but I do not stop doing evil. I always anger You, my Lord and God, and Your Most Pure Mother, and all the Heavenly Powers, and my holy Guardian Angel. I know, Lord, that I am unworthy of Your love for mankind, but I am worthy of all condemnation and torment. But, Lord, whether I want it or not, save me. After all, if you save a righteous person, there is nothing great in it. And if You have mercy on the pure, there is nothing wondrous in this - they are worthy of Your mercy. But on me, a sinner, show Your wondrous mercy and reveal Your love for mankind, so that my anger does not overcome Your immeasurable goodness and mercy, and do whatever You want with me.

Revive and strengthen me, O Christ God, lest I fall asleep in the sleep of death, lest my enemy say that he has defeated me.

Glory: Be the protector of my soul, O God, for I walk in the midst of many snares; deliver me from them and save me, O Good One and Lover of Mankind.

And now: Let us sing incessantly to the Glorious Mother of God, surpassing the holy Angels in holiness, with our hearts and lips, confessing Her to be the Theotokos, who truly gave birth to us God incarnate, and who prays unceasingly for our souls.

Mark yourself with a cross and say a prayer to the Honest Cross

May God rise again, and may His enemies be scattered, and may those who hate Him flee from His presence. As smoke disappears, let them disappear, as wax melts before the fire, so let demons perish from the face of those who love God, and make the sign of the cross on themselves, and exclaim with joy: Rejoice, Most Honest and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord, driving away demons by the power of our crucified Lord Jesus on you Christ, who descended into hell and destroyed the power of the devil, and gave us His Honorable Cross to repel every enemy. O Most Honest and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord, help me with the Holy Lady the Virgin Mary and with all the saints forever, amen.

Or briefly:

Protect me, Lord, by the power of Your Honest and Life-giving Cross and save me from all evil.

Prayer for forgiveness of sins

Weaken, forgive, forgive, O God, our sins, voluntary and involuntary, in word and in deed, in knowledge and in ignorance, in days and nights, in mind and thought. Forgive us everything, for You are Good and Humane.

Prayer

Forgive those who hate and offend us, O Lord, Lover of Mankind. Do good to those who do good. Grant to our brothers and relatives the fulfillment of requests for salvation and eternal life. Visit the sick and grant healing. Help those who are at sea. Companion to travelers. Grant forgiveness of sins to those who serve and forgive us. Have mercy on those who have entrusted us, the unworthy, to pray for them, according to Your great mercy. Remember, Lord, our departed fathers and brothers and rest them where the light of Your face shines. Remember, Lord, our brothers and sisters who are in prison, and deliver them from all misfortune. Remember, Lord, those who bring the fruits of their labors to Your holy Churches, and those who do good in them, and fulfill their requests for salvation and grant them eternal life. Remember, Lord, us, Your humble and sinful and unworthy servants, and enlighten our minds with the light of Your mind, and guide us on the path of Your commandments, through the prayers of our Most Pure Lady Theotokos and the eternal Virgin Mary, and all Your saints, for You are blessed forever and ever. Amen.

Everyday confession of sins

I confess to You, my Lord God and Creator, in the One Holy Trinity, glorified and worshiped Father and Son and Holy Spirit, all my sins committed in all the days of my life, and at every hour, and at the present time, and in past days and nights - in deed, in word, in thought, overeating, drunkenness, breaking the fast, idle talk, despondency, laziness, bickering, disobedience, slander, indifference, condemnation, pride, greed, theft, lies, desecration, greed, jealousy, envy, anger, rancor, hatred, greed and all my senses: sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch - and my other spiritual and physical sins, with which I angered You, my God and Creator, and offended my neighbor. Repenting of them, I stand guilty before You, my God, and I want to repent. But only, Lord, my God, with tears I humbly ask You: help me. By Your mercy, forgive me my past sins and free me from everything that I expressed before You, for You are Good and Humane.

When you go to bed, say:

Into Your hands, Lord Jesus Christ, my God, I commend my spirit. Bless me, have mercy on me, and grant me eternal life. Amen.

Once upon a time, I asked the “all-knowing grannies” in the Church about everything that I didn’t understand. Once again I asked about reading the Psalms: how to read, what to pray for, etc. To which the granny answered me that the Psalter must be read only in Church Slavonic, otherwise “LOW”! I was very upset and began to study the literacy of the church language. But I was tempted to ask the priest about this in confession. Father smiled into his beard and said that the Psalter can and should be read in the language you understand. The Lord understands all languages, you just need to sincerely ask Him, with all your heart! And he also advised me to ask all questions only to the priest and never listen to know-it-all grandmothers!

    Question to the priest

Question to the priest- section of the site “Russian Faith”, which is especially popular. We're getting new ones questions Orthodox priest almost every day, and especially many of them come from beginning Christians who have only heard about the Old Believers, but have not had the opportunity to get to know them better.

We know how difficult it can be - cross the threshold of the temple and ask your question to the priest live. And of course, personal conversation and a living word of consolation will never replace electronic correspondence. However, we need spiritual counsel.

We believe that all the efforts of our shepherds will not be in vain, even if at least one of those who asked receives some spiritual benefit!

Ask a question to the priest

Is it possible to read prayers in Russian?

You pose a very serious question, the answer to which is not as simple as it might seem at first glance. For a person deeply rooted in Orthodox tradition, it seems unthinkable how one can address God in modern Russian. And for a person just coming to faith, Church Slavonic language unusual and obscure. In church, the texts of Holy Scripture are read in Church Slavonic, and in literature, in sermons, in letters and responses to contemporaries, we most often use the text of the Synodal translation of the Bible into Russian. But we use it only to convey the idea more clearly to modern people, although this translation is quite archaic. In passing, I would like to note that work is currently underway to publish an Old Believer translation into Russian of the Holy Gospel.

It must be said that the Church Slavonic translation of the Bible and liturgical texts is more accurate and closer to the original than the Synodal translation. Experts in the field of linguistics talk about the difficulty of interpreting prayer formulas and the impossibility of accurately conveying liturgical semantics using the tools of modern language.

A wonderful article about our liturgical language was published in the preface to the “Prayer Book”, published by the Old Believer Metropolis of the Russian Orthodox Old Believer Church (M., 1988, etc. pp. 8-9). It briefly but essentially reveals the meaning of the Church Slavonic language and the reasons why the Church cannot switch to modern Russian. Here I will only quote one paragraph.

The centuries-old prayer experience of the Russian Church shows that the Church Slavonic language is perfectly suited for prayerful communication with God. After all, a conversation with God is not a conversation with a person. Therefore, the language of prayer must be different from the language of ordinary speech. The Church Slavonic language gives prayers and praises a sublime style, distracting the soul from vain earthly worries and sorrows. In this regard, the language of our worship is an inexhaustible treasure.

Start praying according to the prayer book, and you will see how organically the words of prayer flow from your heart.

Liturgical and modern Russian languages are closely related. Therefore, I would advise you to make an effort on yourself and try to master Church Slavonic. We can recommend the following tutorial: Pletneva A.A., Kravetsky A.G. Church Slavonic language: Textbook. ed. – 5th ed., stereotypical. – M.: AST-PRESS KNIGA, 2013 – 272 p.. It is also necessary to use a dictionary, although not many church words require translation. Next, reading scripture, be sure to refer to patristic interpretations. Compare Church Slavonic and Synodal translations. This will allow you to understand that translation does not provide a complete understanding of the meaning. After all, the Lord also to the apostles opened the mind to understand the Scriptures"(Luke 24:45). Obviously, such work requires some effort and time, but it is generously rewarded. You will gain a deeper understanding of the Bible and worship. " For I want mercy, not sacrifice, and knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.“says the Lord (6:6).

I can give you an example. On Holy Spirit Monday the following words of the Apostle Paul are read in church: “ ...redeeming time"(Eph. 5:16). And in the Synodal translation in the same place we read: “ ... valuing time" Do you agree that this instruction in Church Slavonic sounds much deeper and stronger? And here is his interpretation.

“Amma Theodora asked Archbishop Theophilus: what is the meaning of the Apostle’s saying: “Time redeems”? He answered: “This means that our entire earthly life is similar to the production of trade. For example: when the time comes when reproaches will fall on you, you atone for this time with humility and gain benefit (profit) for yourself. Thus, everything that is contrary and hostile to us can, if we want, turn to our advantage” (Alphabetical Patericon).

I also recommend that you familiarize yourself with the translations of the psalms made by the outstanding Russian philologist, academician Sergei Sergeevich Averintsev (1937-2004). See for example: Selected Psalms / Translation and commentary by S.S. Averintseva. – M.: St. Philaret Orthodox Christian Institute, 2005. – 176 p. These translations are remarkable in that they make it possible to convey to modern people the meaning of the psalms, firstly, in the Russian language (in which modern words, barbarisms and borrowings are excluded), and secondly, in a Russian language that also conveys the imagery of the original, allows feel the structure of psalmic speech.

In conclusion, a few words must be said about the modern Russian language. This phrase is often used to denote common language, excluding anything that sounds “archaic.” " The use of such language" - writes S.S. Averintsev, - “creates the illusion that the environment in which the action takes place is modernity. ... God comes to the believer in reality today; but I'm afraid that He will not come to the isolationist ideological space that does not want to know anything but itself"(op. cit. pp. 148 and 150).

This prayer book is intended for people taking their first steps in the Church, for those who for some reason do not have the opportunity to learn and understand the Church Slavonic language. It included abbreviated morning and evening rules, succession and canon for Holy Communion, as well as a reminder for Holy Communion. All this is offered in an adequate translation from Church Slavonic into Russian. The Missionary Prayer Book has passed theological and philological examination. When compiling the prayer book, realizing the impossibility of preserving the divine beauty of Church Slavonic poetry, the compiler was guided by the desire to convey the meaning of the prayers as accurately as possible. In the future, you, dear reader of the Lord, will need a complete prayer book, which is used by the majority of Orthodox Christians. The choice of translation was made on large quantities sources, the main of which was the book “Prayers and chants of the Orthodox prayer book with translation into Russian, explanations and notes by Nikolai Nakhimov. For I am aware of my iniquities, and my sin is always before me. I have sinned against You, the One, and have done evil in Your sight, so that You are righteous in Your judgment and pure in Your judgment. Behold, I was conceived in iniquity, and my mother gave birth to me in sin. But, behold, You loved righteousness and revealed to me the hidden secret of Your wisdom. Sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be clean; Wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and gladness, and the broken bones will rejoice. Turn Your face away from my sins and blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Give me back my joy hope Strengthen me for salvation through You and the sovereign Spirit. I will teach the wicked Your ways, and the wicked will turn to You. Deliver me from spills Bloody God, God of my salvation, and my tongue will praise Your righteousness. God! Open my mouth, and my mouth will declare Your praise: for You do not desire sacrifice, I would give it; You do not favor burnt offerings. A sacrifice to God is a contrite spirit; You will not reject a contrite and humble heart, O God. Do good, God, by Thy favor is Zion, and may the walls of Jerusalem be erected. Then the sacrifices of righteousness, the wave offerings and the burnt offerings will be acceptable to You; Then they will place bullocks on Your altar.

Psalm 22

The Lord is my Shepherd, and I will lack for nothing: He has made me live in green pastures and leads me beside still waters; strengthens my soul, guides me on the paths of righteousness for His name's sake. Though I walk through the valley of dark death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff - they calm me. You prepared a table before me in the presence of my enemies, you anointed my head with oil; Your cup fills me with the wine of wisdom, so it makes you even more sober, raising your mind to You. And mercy Yours He will accompany me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for many days.

Psalm 23

The Lord's earth and everything that fills it, the universe and everything living in it. He founded it on the seas, and established it on the rivers. Who will ascend to the mountain of the Lord or who will stand in His holy place? One whose hands are innocent and whose heart is pure, who has not sworn falsely to his neighbor, he will receive blessings from the Lord and mercy from God his Savior. Such is the generation of those who seek the Lord, who seek the face of the God of Jacob! Lift up your heights, O gates, and rise up, O eternal doors, and the King of Glory will enter! Who is this King of Glory? The Lord is Mighty and Strong, the Lord is Mighty in War. Lift up your heights, O gates, and open the eternal doors, and the King of Glory will enter! Who is this King of Glory? The Lord of Hosts, He is the King of Glory.

Psalm 115

I believed and therefore said: “I am greatly broken.” I said in my frenzy: “Every man is a lie.” What will I repay to the Lord for all His good deeds to me? I will take the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord. I will fulfill my vows to the Lord in the presence of all His people. The death of His saints is precious in the sight of the Lord. Oh my God! I am Your servant, I am Your servant and the son of Your handmaid. You have loosed my bonds. I will offer you a sacrifice of praise and call on the name of the Lord. I will fulfill my vows to the Lord before all His people, in the courts of the house of the Lord, in the midst of You, Jerusalem!

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and always and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, glory to You, O God. (Bow with the sign of the cross)

Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, glory to You, O God. (Bow with the sign of the cross)

Forgive my iniquities, O Lord, born of a Virgin, and cleanse my heart, making it a temple to Your most pure Body and Blood. And do not cast me away from Your face, O You who have infinitely great mercy!

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. How can I, unworthy, dare to partake of Your holy things? If I dare to approach You with the worthy, then the clothes will expose me, for they are not the same as what they wear to the Supper, and I will bring condemnation to my sinful soul. Cleanse, Lord, the filth of my soul and save me, as a Lover of mankind.

And now and always and forever and ever. Amen. Great are the multitude of my sins, Mother of God! I ran to You, Pure One, with a prayer for salvation. Incline your eyes, O only Blessed One, upon my aching soul and pray to Thy Son and our God to forgive me the bad deeds that I have committed.

(When the glorious disciples were enlightened at the Supper during the washing, then the wicked Judas, obsessed with the love of money, became darkened: He betrays You, the righteous Judge, to the lawless judges. Collector of wealth, look at the one who hanged himself because of them! Avoid greed: this is what the greedy dared to do to the Teacher . Lord, surpassing all in mercy, glory to You!)

Lord, have mercy. (40 times) . (And bows as much as you want).

Human! Intending to taste the Body of the Lord, approach with fear, so as not to be scorched: for this is fire. Drinking divine blood for Communion, first make peace with those who have offended you, and then boldly partake of the mystical food. Before Communion of the terrible sacrifice of the life-giving body of the Master, pray with trepidation as follows :

First prayer, St. Basil the Great

Master, Lord Jesus Christ, our God, Source of life and immortality, Creator of all creation, visible and invisible, of the Beginningless Father, also the eternal and also the beginningless Son! According to Your excessive goodness in last days incarnate, crucified and buried for us, the ungrateful and evil-willed, and with Your blood you renewed our nature, corrupted by sin. You Yourself, immortal King, accept my repentance, a sinner; incline Your ear to me and hear my words. For I have sinned, Lord, I have sinned against heaven and before You, and I am not worthy to lift up my eyes to heavenly the height of Your glory; for I have angered Thy goodness, having transgressed Thy commandments and not obeyed Thy commandments. But You, Lord, gentle, long-suffering, and abundantly merciful, did not allow me to perish among my iniquities, waiting in every possible way for my conversion. For You said, O Lover of Mankind, through Your prophet, that You do not desire the death of a sinner, but that he should turn on the path of good and was alive. You do not want, O Lord, for the creation of Your hands to perish, and You do not find satisfaction in human destruction, but You want everyone to be saved and achieve the knowledge of the truth. Therefore, I, although I am not worthy of either heaven or earth, or this short-lived life itself, since I have enslaved myself entirely to sin and sensual pleasures and have defiled in yourself Your Image, but, being Your creation and creation, I, unfortunate one, do not despair of my salvation and boldly resort to Your immeasurable mercy. Accept me, O Lord who loves mankind, as a harlot, as a thief, as a publican, as a prodigal son. And remove from me the heavy burden of sins - You, who take upon yourself the sin of the world and heal human infirmities, - who call the weary and burdened to Yourself and give them peace, - who came to call not the righteous, but sinners to repentance. And cleanse me from all impurity of body and soul, and teach me to lead a holy life in fear of You, so that, by communing, with a clear testimony of my conscience, Your Holy Things, I may enter into unity with Your holy Body and Blood and have You living in me and abiding with the Father and the Holy Spirit.

Oh, Lord Jesus Christ, my God! And may the communion of Your most pure and life-giving Mysteries not be a condemnation for me, and may I not become weak in soul and body from unworthy communion of them; but grant me, until my last breath, to partake of Your Holy Things, not as a condemnation, A into communion with the Holy Spirit, guidance into eternal life and a favorable response to the Last Judgment Yours, so that I, along with all Your chosen ones, may become a participant in the fullness of Your blessings, prepared by You, O Lord, for those who love You, in which You are glorified forever. Amen.

Second prayer, St. our father John Chrysostom

Lord, my God, I realize that I am unworthy and not prepared for You to enter under the roof of the dwelling of my soul, because it is all empty and in ruins, and there is no worthy place in me where to lay my head to You. But how You humbled Yourself for us, came down from above heavenly, so now descend to my insignificance. And how it pleased You to lie down in a cave, in a wordless manger animals, so deign to enter the manger of my reckless soul and my desecrated body. And just as You did not disdain to enter and take part in the evening with sinners in the house of Simon the leper, so deign to enter into the dwelling of my humble, leper and sinful soul. And just as You did not reject a harlot and a sinner like me, who came and touched You, so also have mercy on me, a sinner, who comes and touches You. And just as You did not abhor her foul and unclean lips that kissed You, so do not abhor even more than hers my foul and unclean lips, my vile and unclean lips and my foul and even more unclean tongue. But let it be for me flaming coal of Your most holy Body and Your precious Blood for sanctification and enlightenment, for the health of my humble soul and body, for alleviating the burden of many of my sins, for protection from all devilish influences, for the elimination and curbing of my bad and harmful habits, for the mortification of passions, for success in Your Commandments, to the increase of Your divine grace, to the acquisition of Your Kingdom. For I come to You, Christ God, not as impudent, but as one who trusts in Your unspeakable mercy and so that, far separated from You, I am not kidnapped by a spiritual wolf. Therefore, I pray to You: as the only Saint, sanctify, O Lord, my soul and body, mind and heart, all internal organs, and renew me entirely, and root the fear of You in my members, and make Your sanctification indelible in me. Be my helper and protector, guiding my life peacefully like a helmsman, may I be honored at the Court to stand at Your right hand with Your Saints, through the prayers and intercession of Your All-Pure Mother, Your disembodied servants and the Most Pure Powers and all the saints who have pleased You from eternity. Amen.

Third prayer, St. Simeon Metaphrastus

Lord, the only pure and immortal, inexpressibly Yours compassion and love for mankind, who took upon Himself all our complex nature from the pure virgin blood of Who supernaturally gave birth to You by the influx of the Holy Spirit, by the good pleasure of the eternal Father, Jesus Christ, the Wisdom of God, peace and power! You, who through Your assumed flesh accepted life-giving and saving sufferings: the cross, nails, death - kill my soul-destroying bodily passions. You, who by Your burial have devastated the kingdom of hell, bury my bad intentions with good thoughts and scatter the spirits of evil. You, to Your life-giving on the third day from the coffin having raised the fallen forefather by rebellion, raise me too, who have fallen into sin, giving me the means of repentance. You, by Your glorious ascension, have deified the received flesh and given it the honor of sitting at the right hand of the Father, deign me also, through the communion of Your holy Mysteries, to reach the right side of those being saved. You, who by the descent of the Comforter of the Spirit made Your holy disciples precious vessels, show me also to be the receptacle of His coming. You, who intend to come again to righteously judge the universe, deign to meet me, with all Your saints, You, my Judge and Creator, future on the clouds, so that I endlessly glorify and sing Your praises, with Your beginningless Father and Your All-Holy, Good and Life-giving Spirit, now and always and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer four, St. John of Damascus

Master, Lord Jesus Christ, our God, the only one who has the power to forgive people’s sins! As a merciful and lover of mankind, neglect all my sins, committed both consciously and unconsciously, and grant me, without being condemned, to partake of the divine, glorious, most pure and life-giving Mysteries, not to aggravate, nor torment, nor to multiply sins, but for purification, sanctification, as a pledge of future life and the Kingdom, for protection, help and driving away enemies, for the destruction of many of my sins. For You are a merciful, compassionate and loving God, and to You we send up glory, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, now and always and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Fifth prayer, St. Basil the Great

I know, Lord, that I unworthily partake of Your most pure Body and Your precious Blood, and I am guilty, and I eat and drink my own condemnation, not distinguishing between Your Body and Blood, Christ and my God. But I, trusting in Your compassion, come to You, who said: “He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.” Have mercy, O Lord, and do not expose me, a sinner, but deal with me according to Your mercy. And may this Shrine be for me for healing, cleansing, enlightenment, preservation and salvation, and for the sanctification of soul and body; to drive away every vision, evil deed and devilish influence manifested through thoughts in my members; for boldness before You and love for You, for the correction and affirmation of life in goodness, the growth of virtue and perfection, for the fulfillment of the commandments, for communion with the Holy Spirit, for guidance into eternal life, for a favorable response at Your terrible judgment, - not for condemnation or as punishment.

Prayer six, St. Simeon the New Theologian

From foul lips, from a vile heart, from an unclean tongue, from a defiled soul, accept prayer, my Christ, and do not reject me neither for my words, nor for the manifestation of my shameless character. Let me freely express what I want, my Christ; or better yet, teach me what I should do and say. I have sinned more than the harlot, who, having learned where You are and having bought peace, dared to come to anoint the feet of Your God, my Lord and Christ. Like her, who came from pure hearts, You have not rejected, do not disdain me, Christ! Allow me to hold and kiss Your feet and boldly anoint them with a stream of tears, like precious ointment. Wash me with your tears, cleanse me with them, Lord! Forgive my sins and grant me forgiveness. You know many of my evil deeds, you also know my ulcers, you see the scars from them; but you also know my faith, you see my zeal and hear my groans. Not a drop of tears, not even a particle of this drop, will be hidden from You, my God, my Creator, my Redeemer. Thy eyes see what I have not completed, and in Thy book You have written down even that which I have not yet done. Look at my humility, look at my suffering, and forgive me all my sins, O God of the Universe, so that with a pure heart, a trembling thought and a contrite soul, I may partake of Your most pure and most holy Mysteries, by which everyone who eats and drinks is revived and deified their with a pure heart. For You said, my Lord: “Whoever eats My Flesh and drinks My Blood abides in Me, and I in him.” And every word of my Lord and God is true; for, partaking of the divine and deifying Gifts, I am truly not alone, but with You, my Christ, with the Light shining like three suns and illuminating the world. Therefore, so that I would not be left alone, without You, the Giver of life, my breath, my life, my joy, the salvation of the world, I came to You, as You see, with tears and a contrite soul, and I beg you to give me deliverance from of my sins, without condemnation, to partake of Your life-giving, most pure Mysteries. May You remain, as You said, with me, the most unfortunate, so that the tempter does not insidiously kidnap me, seeing me deprived of Your grace, and leading me astray, do not take me away from Your deifying words. Therefore I fall to feet Yours and I ardently appeal to You: how You received the prodigal son and the harlot who came to You, so accept, O Merciful One, also me, prodigal and filthy, now coming to You with a contrite soul. I know, my Savior, that no one has sinned before You like I have, or done what I have done. But I also know that neither the severity of sins nor the multitude of sins exceeds the great patience and extreme love of my God; but with merciful compassion You purify and enlighten those who ardently repent and introduce them to the light, abundantly communicating to them a part of Your Divinity and, which is strange to the Angels and to human thought, you often converse with them as with Your true friends. This gives me courage, inspires me, my Christ! And, trusting in Your rich blessings to us, with trembling joy, being grass, I partake of the Fire and - a strange miracle! - I don’t burn, being mysteriously watered by your grace, like in ancient times a thorn bush that burned and was not consumed. So, with a grateful thought, a grateful heart, with all my grateful soul and body, I worship, magnify and glorify You, my God, as blessed now and forever. Amen.

Seventh prayer, St. John Chrysostom

Let me go, forgive me, forgive me my sins, O God, with which I have sinned before You in word, deed, thought, voluntarily and involuntarily, consciously and unconsciously, forgive me everything, for You are good and a lover of mankind. And through the prayers of Your most pure Mother, Your spiritual servants and holy Powers, and all the saints who have pleased You from the beginning of the world, deign me to accept without condemnation Your holy and most pure Body and venerable Blood, for the healing of soul and body and for the cleansing of my evil thoughts: for Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now, and always, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer eight, his

I am not worthy, Master Lord, for You to enter under the roof of my soul. But since You, O Lover of Mankind, want to live in me, I boldly approach. You command, and I will open the doors that You alone created, and You will enter with ordinary love for mankind, You will enter and enlighten my darkened mind. I believe that You will do this. For You did not leave the harlot who came to You with tears; He did not reject the repentant publican; He did not even drive away the robber who recognized You as the King; did not leave what he was, and the repentant persecutor Your Pavel; but to all who came to You with repentance, You gave a place in the host of Your friends, the only Blessed One, always, now and forever. Amen.

The ninth prayer, his

Lord Jesus Christ, my God, weaken, let go, have mercy and forgive me, a sinner, Thy unworthy and unworthy servant, all my mistakes, sins and falls that I have sinned against You from my youth to this day and hour: consciously or unconsciously , words or deeds, attractions, thoughts, aspirations and all my feelings. And through the prayers of the most pure Ever-Virgin Mary, Your Mother, who unseedlessly gave birth to You, my only firm hope, protection and salvation, grant me worthy to partake of Your most pure, eternal, saving and terrible Mysteries, without bringing upon myself condemnation, for the remission of sins and eternal life, to sanctification and enlightenment, to strength, healing and health of soul and body, to the extermination and complete destruction of my evil thoughts, thoughts and ideas, as well as unclean dreams, dark and evil spirits. For Yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, and the honor, and the worship, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, now and always and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer tenth, St. John of Damascus

I stand before the doors of Your temple, and after all I don’t leave bad thoughts. But You, Christ God, Who justified the publican and had mercy on the Canaanite woman and opened the doors of paradise to the thief, open Your humane heart to me and accept me, who comes and touches You as You accepted the harlot and the bleeding woman: for one, touching the hem of Your garment, immediately received healing; the other, hugging Your most pure feet, took with her the forgiveness of sins. And I, unfortunate one, deciding to accept Your entire Body, may I not burn; but accept me as You accepted those women, and enlighten the feelings of my soul, burning away my sinful guilts, with prayers without the seed of You who gave birth and heavenly powers. For blessed are You forever and ever. Amen.

Eleventh prayer, St. John Chrysostom

I believe, Lord, and confess that You are truly the Christ, the Son of the Living God, Who came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the first. I also believe that this is Your most pure Body and this is Your precious Blood itself. Therefore, I ask You: have mercy on me and forgive me my sins, voluntary and involuntary, which I have committed in word or deed, consciously or unconsciously; and deign me, without incurring condemnation, to partake of Your most pure Mysteries to receive forgiveness of sins and eternal life. Amen.

End of prayers

It is truly worthy to glorify You as the Mother of God, always Blessed and Immaculate, and the Mother of our God. We magnify You as the true Mother of God, who gave birth without illness to God the Word, worthy of greater honor than the Cherubim, and incomparably more glorious than the Seraphim.

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and always, and forever and ever. Amen.

Lord, have mercy. (Thrice)

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, prayers for the sake of Your Most Pure Mother, our reverend and God-bearing fathers and all the saints, have mercy on us. Amen.

Immediately before Communion, if possible, recite to yourself the following verses of Symeon Metaphrastus:

Here I begin to receive divine communion. Creator, do not burn me with communion! For You are the fire that burns the unworthy. But cleanse me from all uncleanness.

Then say:

no way such kiss like Judas, but like a thief, I openly express my faith in You, saying: “Remember me, O Lord, in Your Kingdom!”

And the following verses:

Man, tremble at the sight of the divine Blood! She is a fire that burns the unworthy. The Body of God deifies and nourishes me: it deifies the spirit, incomprehensibly nourishes the mind.

Then the troparia:

You attracted me, Christ, with love and changed me with a holy desire for You. My sins have been consumed by immaterial fire, and I am worthy to sweetly enjoy You, so that I may glorify Your two comings with rejoicing.

How can I, unworthy, enter into the bright host of Your saints? After all, if I decide to enter the palace with them marriage, my clothes will give me away, because they are not the kind they wear to a wedding, and I will be bound and expelled by the Angels. Cleanse, Lord, the impurity of my soul and save me, as a Lover of mankind.

Also the prayer:

Master - Lover of mankind, Lord Jesus Christ my God, let this Shrine be to me not as an accusation for my unworthiness, but as a cleansing of soul and body and as a pledge of future life and the Kingdom. It is good for me to cleave to God, to place my hope in the Lord for my salvation.

And again:

Accept me today as a participant in Your mystical Supper, Son of God, for I no way I will not reveal secrets to Your enemies, nor will I give You such kiss like Judas, but like a thief, I openly express my faith in You, saying: Remember me, O Lord, in Your Kingdom!

PRAYERS AFTER HOLY COMMUNION

Glory to You, God! Glory to You, God! Glory to You, God!

Prayer of thanksgiving, first.

I thank You, Lord, my God, that You did not reject me, a sinner, but made me worthy to partake of Your Holy Things. I thank You that You have vouchsafed me, unworthy, to partake of Your most pure heavenly Gifts. But, Lord-Love of Mankind, who died for us and rose again and gave us these terrible life-giving Mysteries for the benefit and sanctification of our souls and bodies, make them also for me to heal my soul and body, to repel every enemy, to enlighten the eyes of my heart, into the peace of my spiritual strength, into firm faith, into unfeigned love, into the enlightenment of the mind, into the observance of Thy commandments, into the increase of Thy divine grace and into the acquisition of Thy Kingdom; so that, being preserved by them in purity before You, I will always remember Your mercy and live no longer for myself, but for You, our Lord and Benefactor. And thus, having departed from this life in the hope of Eternal life, I will come to a place of eternal peace, where the voices of the triumphant do not cease and where the joy of those who look at the indescribable beauty of Your face is endless. For You are the true goal of aspiration and the inexplicable joy of those who love You, Christ our God, and all creation sings to You forever. Amen.

Second prayer, St. Vasily Velikago.

Lord, Christ God, King of the ages and Creator of all peace! I thank You for all the blessings that You have given me, and for the communion of Your most pure and life-giving Mysteries. And so I pray to You, O merciful and Lover of Mankind: keep me under Your protection in the shadow of Your wings, and give me with a clear conscience Until my last breath, it is worthy to partake of Your Holy Things for the remission of sins and eternal life. For You are the Bread of Life, the Source of sanctification, the Giver of blessings. And we send glory to You, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, now and always and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Third prayer, St. Symeon Metaphrastus.

Lord, who voluntarily gave me Your flesh for food, You are the fire that burns the unworthy! Don't burn me, my Creator! But go into the members of my body, into all the joints, into the entrails, into the heart, and the thorns of all my sins fell. Cleanse my soul, sanctify my thoughts, strengthen me in my activities, enlighten my feelings, imbue me with fear of You. Always protect, guard, take care of me from every deed and word harmful to the soul. Cleanse, wash, arrange me; decorate, admonish and enlighten me. Make me Your temple of the one Spirit and no longer a dwelling place of sin, so that after receiving Communion every evildoer, every passion will flee from me, as from Your house, as from fire. As intercessors for myself, I present to You all the saints, the leaders ethereal Forces, Your Forerunner, the wise Apostles and, above them, Your immaculate, most pure Mother. Accept their prayers, my merciful Christ, and make Your servant a son of light. For You, the Merciful One, alone are the sanctification and illumination of our souls. And to You, as befits God and Master, we all send glory to You every day.

Prayer four.

May Your Holy Body, Lord Jesus Christ, our God, be for me for eternal life, and Your precious Blood for the remission of sins: and may this communion be for me joy, health and gladness. At Thy terrible and second coming grant me, a sinner, to stand in Thy glory, through the prayers of Thy Most Pure Mother and all the saints.

Fifth prayer, to the Most Holy Theotokos.

Most Holy Lady Theotokos, light of my darkened soul, hope, protection, refuge, consolation, my joy! I thank You that You have vouchsafed me, unworthy, to partake of the most pure Body and precious Blood of Your Son. You who gave birth to the true Light, enlighten the spiritual eyes of my heart. O Thou who gave birth to the Source of immortality, revive me, deadened by sin. Merciful Mother of the merciful God, have mercy on me and give me tenderness and contrition in my heart, humility in my thoughts, a return to the good thoughts of my mind, in cases of its infatuation. And grant me, until my last breath, without being condemned, to accept the shrine of the most pure Mysteries for the healing of soul and body. And give me tears of repentance and thanksgiving, so that I may sing and glorify You all the days of my life, since You are Blessed and glorified forever. Amen.

Now do You let Your servant go, O Master, according to Your word, in peace, for my eyes have seen Your salvation, which You have prepared before the face of all nations, a light to enlighten the Gentiles and the glory of Your people Israel.

Father John Chrysostom, teaching us with your writings, pray to the Word - Christ God for the salvation of our souls.

Kontakion

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Pious, most blessed John Chrysostom, you received divine grace from heaven and teach with your lips everyone to worship the One God in the Trinity. We duly praise you, for you are the leader who explains the divine.

Kontakion

You, Father Gregory, appeared as an imitator of the Chief of the Shepherds of Christ, guiding hosts of monks into the heavenly courtyard, and therefore you taught the sheep of Christ His commandments. Now you rejoice with them and rejoice in the heavenly abodes.

And now and always and forever and ever. Amen. Reliable protection of Christians, unfailing intercessor before the Creator, do not despise the prayerful voices of sinners, but hasten, O Merciful One, to help us, who cry out to You with faith: hasten to intercede and hasten to pray, Mother of God, always protecting those who worship You.

After Communion of the Body and Blood of the Lord, let everyone remain in purity, abstinence and laconicism, so as to worthily preserve within themselves the Christ received.

NOTES

The names of prayers and explanations in bold type are not read aloud.

All prayers, composed mainly by the holy fathers, are written in the masculine gender; women can pray both in the masculine gender (meaning a person in general) and in the feminine gender (whichever is more convenient for you).

From Easter to Ascension, instead of this prayer, the troparion to the Resurrection is read: “Christ rose from the dead, trampling down death by death, and giving life to the dead.” From the Feast of the Ascension to Trinity, we begin all prayers with the Trisagion, omitting everything previous. This remark also applies to evening prayers.

The entire world created by God: earthly and heavenly, visible and invisible, created and uncreated.

The source of blessings is the source of good and benefit for our souls.

Each request of this prayer is usually accompanied by the sign of the cross.

Irmos: Shine, shine, new Jerusalem: for the glory of the Lord has shone upon you! Celebrate now and be merry, O Zion! You, Pure Mother of God, rejoice in the resurrection of the One born of You. Chorus: The angel exclaimed to the Blessed One: “pure Virgin, rejoice!” And I will repeat: rejoice! Your Son rose from the grave on the third day, raising the dead. People, rejoice!

This remark also applies to the end of the remaining prayers.

Those. devil

This is how Saint Theophan the Recluse understood this place (see letters)

Flattering, false

First of all, in the spiritual struggle with passions and the devil.

This prayer to God is a person’s heartfelt contrition for his sins and thus serves as preparation for the sacrament of Holy Repentance. And, of course, in no case can it serve as a replacement for it.

Acceptable in the Orthodox tradition is a figurative poetic hyperbole of personal appeal to the Cross, implying an appeal to the Savior Crucified on Him.

The canon is a series of church hymns, irmos and troparions, closely related to each other, both musically (the melody, and in the Greek original, a certain verse size), and in content. The latter expresses the spirit and essence of the celebrated church event, the exploits of the celebrated saint or other event.

Hyssop is a fragrant, semi-shrub plant from the Lamiaceae family, with blue or pink flowers. Twigs of hyssop, tied into a bundle, were used by Jews for sprinkling.

An introductory verse showing the content of the other verses of a song or canon. In the Byzantine canons, the irmos serves as a melodic model for subsequent troparions of the song.

Rising from sleep, before doing anything else, stand reverently, presenting yourself before the All-Seeing God, and, making the sign of the cross, say:

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Then wait a little until all your feelings come to silence and your thoughts leave everything earthly, and then do the required short prayers with bows, without haste and with heartfelt attention.

Publican's Prayer

God, be merciful to me, a sinner (Luke 18:13).

Initial prayer

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, through the prayers of Your Most Pure Mother and all the saints, have mercy on us. Amen.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Heavenly King, Comforter, Spirit of Truth, abiding everywhere and filling everything with Himself, Source of blessings and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Good One, our souls.

From Easter to Ascension, instead of this prayer, the troparion of Easter is read:
« Christ rose from the dead, trampling down death by death, and giving life to those in the tombs ".. (Three times)

From Ascension to Trinity, we begin prayers with “Holy God...”, omitting all the preceding ones.

Trisagion

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (3)

Prayer to the Holy Trinity

All-Holy Trinity, have mercy on us; Lord, cleanse our sins; Lord, forgive our iniquities; Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities, for Thy name’s sake!

Lord, have mercy. (3)

Glory to the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now, and always, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

When it is written “Glory:”, “And now:”, it is necessary to read in full: « Glory to the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now, and always, and unto ages of ages. Amen."

.
Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who is in heaven! Hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; Give us our daily bread today; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Trinity Troparions (To the Most Holy Trinity)

Rising from sleep, we fall before You, O Good One, / and we proclaim an angelic song to You, O Mighty One: / “Holy, Holy, Holy are You, O God, / through the prayers of the Mother of God, have mercy on us!”

Glory:You raised me from bed and from sleep, Lord! / Enlighten my mind and heart, / and open my lips, / to sing to You, Holy Trinity: / “Holy, Holy, Holy You, O God, / through the prayers of the Mother of God, have mercy on us!”

And now:Suddenly the Judge will come, / and everyone’s deeds will be revealed. / But in fear let us exclaim at midnight: / “Holy, Holy, Holy are You, O God, / through the prayers of the Mother of God, have mercy on us!”

Lord, have mercy. (12)

Prayer to the Holy Trinity

Rising from sleep, I thank You, Holy Trinity, that according to Your great goodness and
long-suffering, You, God, were not angry with me, lazy and sinful, and did not destroy me with my iniquities, but showed me Your usual love for mankind, and raised me, lying insensible, so that early in the morning I would turn to You and glorify Your power.
And now enlighten the eyes of my thoughts, open my lips, so that I may learn Your word, and understand Your commandments, and do Your will, and sing, glorifying You from my heart, and glorify Your all-holy name, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit now , and always, and forever and ever. Amen.

Come, let us worship our King, God!
Come, let us worship and fall before Christ, the King, our God!
Come, let us bow and fall before Christ Himself, our King and God!

Psalm 50, penitential.

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your great mercy, and according to the multitude of Your mercies, blot out my iniquities.
Wash me away from my uncleanness many times, and cleanse me from my sin, wash me away,
For I am aware of my iniquities, and my sin is always before my eyes.
I have sinned before You, You alone, and have done evil in Your sight, so that You are righteous in Your judgment and pure in Your judgment.
Behold, I was conceived in iniquity, and my mother gave birth to me in sin.
Behold, You loved the truth about what is hidden in my heart and showed that Your wisdom knows everything that is inside me.
Sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will become clean; Wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
Let me hear joy and gladness, and the bones broken by You will rejoice.
Turn it away Your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew the spirit of truth within me.
Do not cast me away from Your presence and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of being saved by You and strengthen me with the sovereign Spirit.
I will teach the lost Your ways, and those who have sinned will return to You.
Deliver me from my bloody lot, O God, God of my salvation, and my tongue will praise Your justice.
God! open my mouth, and my mouth will declare Your praise:
For You do not desire sacrifice, I would give it; burnt offerings do not please You.
A sacrifice to God is a broken spirit; You will not despise a contrite and humble heart, O God.
Bless Zion, O Lord, according to Your good pleasure; build the walls of Jerusalem:
Then the sacrifices of justification, the heave offering, and the burnt offering will be acceptable to You; Then they will place bullocks on Your altar.

And after a night’s sleep, send me a clear, sinless day, O Christ God, and save me.

Prayer 5, St. Basil the Great

Lord Almighty, God of the bodiless powers and all flesh, living on the heights of heaven and looking over the valleys of the earth, testing both hearts and inner feelings and the one who clearly knows the innermost things of people, the beginningless and eternal Light, with whom there is no change and not a shadow of change! Himself, immortal King, accept our prayers, which we, boldly hoping for the multitude of Your mercies, now bring to You from evil lips, and forgive us our sins, in deed and word and thought, committed by us consciously and out of ignorance, and cleanse us from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, making us temples of Your Holy Spirit. And grant us, with a watchful heart and a sober mind, to pass through the whole night of our present life, awaiting the coming have a bright day the appearance of Your Only Begotten Son, our Lord and God and Savior Jesus Christ, when He, the Judge of all, will come to earth with glory to reward everyone according to their deeds; May He find us not fallen and lazy, but awake and risen, fulfilling His commandments, and ready to enter with Him into the joy and divine chamber of His glory, where those who celebrate the unceasing voice and inexpressible pleasure contemplate the indescribable beauty of Your face. For You are the true Light, enlightening and sanctifying everything, and all creation sings to You forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer 6th, of the same saint

We bless you, Almighty God and merciful Lord, who always does with us great and incomprehensible, glorious and terrible, innumerable things, who has given us sleep for the repose of our weakness and for rest from the labors of the arduous flesh. We thank You, for You did not destroy us with our iniquities, but showed Your love for mankind, as usual, and raised us, lying unconscious in sleep, to praise Your power. Therefore, we pray to Your immeasurable goodness: enlighten our mental eyes and raise our minds from the heavy sleep of carelessness. Open our lips and fill them with Your praise, so that we can unwaveringly sing, praise and glorify You, the glorified God in all and from all, the beginningless Father with Your only begotten Son and Your all-holy, good, and life-giving Spirit, now and always, and forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer 7, to the Most Holy Theotokos

I sing of Your grace, Lady, I pray to You, bless my mind. Teach me to walk right along the path of Christ's commandments. Strengthen me, so that I may stay awake in singing, driving away despondency and sleep. Free the one bound by the bonds of sin through Your prayers, O Bride of God. Protect me night and day, delivering me from the attacks of enemies.
Who gave birth to God, the Giver of life, revive me, killed by passions.
She who gave birth to the Never-Evening Light, enlighten my blind soul. O wondrous Palace of the Lord, make me the home of the Divine Spirit. Having given birth to a doctor, heal the long-term passions of my soul. Carried along the waves of life’s storm, guide me to the path of repentance. Deliver me from the eternal fire, the evil worm and the underworld. May I not turn out to be a joy to the demons, guilty of many sins. Renew me, Most Immaculate, decrepit from inconspicuous sins. Show me not involved in any torment and implore everyone to the Lord.
Make me worthy to join all the saints in heavenly joy. Most Holy Virgin, hear the voice of Your indecent servant! Grant me streams of tears, Most Pure One, that cleanse the filth of my soul. I bring you groans from my heart unceasingly - be zealous, Lady! Accept my prayer service and bring it to the merciful God. Exalted above the Angels, lift me above the turmoil of this world.
Light-bearing heavenly Tabernacle, direct spiritual grace within me. I lift up my hands and lips to praise, defiled by filth, the All-Immaculate One. Deliver me from soul-destroying abominations, diligently begging Christ - to Him is due honor and worship now, and always, and forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer 8, to our Lord Jesus Christ

My most merciful and all-merciful God, Lord Jesus Christ, out of great love You came down and became incarnate to save everyone. And again, Savior, I pray to You: save me by grace! After all, if You could save me for my works, it would not be grace and a gift, but rather a duty. Thus, rich in compassion and unspeakable in mercy, for You have said, O my Christ: “Whoever believes in Me will live and will never see death.” If faith in You saves those who have lost hope, then behold, I believe, save me, for You are my God and Creator. May my faith be credited instead of my works, O my God, for You will not find any works to justify me. But instead of all of them, let this faith of mine be sufficient - let it answer, let it justify me, let it show me as a participant in Your eternal glory. May Satan not kidnap me and may he not boast that he has torn me away from Yours, Word of God, hands and fences. But whether I want or not, save me, Christ, my Savior, quickly come to my aid, hurry, I am perishing, for You are my God from my mother’s womb! Grant me, Lord, now to love You, as I once loved that same sin, and to serve You again without laziness, diligently, as I previously worked for Satan the deceiver. I will constantly serve You, my Lord and God Jesus Christ, all the days of my life, now and always, and forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer 9, to the Guardian Angel

Holy Angel, appointed to watch over my ill-fated soul and passionate life, do not leave me, a sinner, and do not depart from me for my intemperance. Do not give the opportunity to the evil demon to rule over me through this mortal body. Take my unfortunate and drooping hand tightly and lead me to the path of salvation.
O holy Angel of God, guardian and patron of my ill-fated soul and body!
Forgive me for everything with which I have offended You all the days of my life, and if I have sinned in any way this past night, protect me this day and save me from every temptation of the enemy, so that I do not anger God with any sin, and pray to the Lord for me May He strengthen me in His fear and show me a slave worthy of His goodness. Amen.
