Sony e-book: characteristics, description, reviews, photos. Information about the dimensions and weight of the device, presented in different units of measurement

It's simple: you walk - the application records your steps and for every 10 thousand (that's about 8 km) you get one crypto dollar. And with our course, this is wow. Then you can exchange your honestly earned money for real money or pay with it in an online store - whichever you prefer.

So far, the founders have $10 million in seed capital and Japanese investors who have agreed to help create such a cryptocurrency and a virtual bank that will generate your steps into your money. In addition, Murata is working on creating a bracelet that will immediately display your achievements.

It is predicted that the average person will be able to earn about 15 crypto dollars per month. For some it’s drinking coffee once, but for residents of third world countries it’s like a salary. For example, in Malawi, where people walk 10 km to work every day and earn $26 a month. Using this application, they will be able to receive twice as much, for this they, however, need to have a smartphone, but that is a completely different story.

In Ukraine, unfortunately, you cannot live on this money, but it is quite possible to treat yourself to something nice.

The whole point of such an idea is precisely to more people encourage an active lifestyle. You used to travel a couple of stops on public transport, but now think about it - maybe you can take a walk?

First, an app called "GO!" will be available only in Britain, Japan, Malawi and Kenya, but gradually they plan to connect the whole world to it.

Previously, there were attempts to make rewards for taking care of your health, but due to scammers such projects had to be closed. How bitwalking will be protected from this is not yet known, but there is information that GPS data will be used.

At first, the currency can indeed be exchanged as 1 bitwalking = 1 US$, but how to maintain such a currency rate is not yet clear. For us Ukrainians, although it’s a small thing, it’s nice. We are waiting for the application to be launched in our country, putting on our shoes comfortable shoes, wrap yourself warmly in scarves and go for a walk (with the device turned on, of course).

How to flash Sony PRS-T1. Detailed instructions.

Resources describing firmware and alternative packages, in addition to download links, usually contain instructions for installing the corresponding firmware. This applies to both Sony firmware updates and alternative packages from boroda, amutin and rupor. In our opinion, these instructions are quite detailed and understandable. However, judging by the questions sent by readers via email or via form Hotline, as well as in terms of the content of search queries, this is not entirely true. Many readers do not understand what “run as administrator” or “disable User Account Control” (UAC) means, and do not know how to check the Reader disk for file system errors and how to fix these errors. To meet the wishes of the workers, we decided to create as many detailed instructions using Sony PRS-T1 e-reader firmware.

Let's make a few important comments. Not all points in this instruction are required to be followed. For example, if you are sure that the Reader disk of your e-reader does not contain file system errors (you meticulously use the function of safely disconnecting the device before disconnecting the USB cable), then there is no need to check and fix this disk before flashing the firmware. If User Account Control is already disabled on your system, or you are using the Windows XP operating system, then you also do not need the option to disable UAC. If you constantly work with administrator rights, then there is no need to run programs as an administrator. You can check whether you are working with administrator rights as follows. Go to the "Computer Management" snap-in ("Control Panel" - "Administrative Tools" - "Computer Management"), expand the "Users and Passwords" item, right-click on the user you are in at the moment, select Properties and see if this user is included in the Administrators group. Please note: if you fail to flash your book the first time, then on the second try, be sure to check if UAC is disabled, reboot the computer, check the Reader volume for errors (even better, format the Reader disk) and run all programs as an administrator.

Before flashing your reader with one of the alternative packages, you need to make sure that you have installed latest version proprietary software (at the time latest edition of this article - 1.0.05.11130). If this is not the case, then before installing packages from boroda, amutin or rupor, update the firmware to version 1.0.05.11130.

Before flashing your book, it must be fully charged (until the red indicator goes out). Be sure to remove the memory card if it is inserted into the device. You also need to clear some space on the Reader disk where dictionaries and installation files will be copied. If you are going to install PRS-T1 Flasher minimal version 1.71 from amutin (or later), then free space must be at least 300 MB. For other packages, you can leave less free space.

To successfully flash the firmware, you must first disable User Accounts Control (UAC). Just remember to turn it back on after successful completion of the firmware and reboot your computer. It is necessary to disable UAC in operating systems Windows Vista and Windows 7. In Windows system XP does not have the UAC function, and there is no need to disable it.

Windows Vista. Go to "Control Panel" - " Accounts users" and click on the link "Turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off". In the window that opens, uncheck "Use User Account Control (UAC) to protect your computer", click "OK", and then be sure to reboot the system:

Windows 7. Go to "Control Panel" - "User Accounts" and click on the "Change User Account Control settings" link. In the window that opens on the left side, lower the slider to the very bottom (“Never notify”), click “OK”, and then be sure to reboot the system:

Connect your device to your computer using a USB cable. Use the cable that came with the Sony PRS-T1 e-reader. Do not use extension cords or hubs. In the computer's energy saving settings, automatic transition to standby/sleep mode must be disabled (or the delay before entering these modes must be set to at least 30 minutes). If you are going to flash the device by connecting it to a laptop, power the laptop from the mains.

A few seconds after connecting the device, the message “Data Transfer Mode” should appear on its screen. Tap directly on this inscription.

Click the Start button and select Computer (My Computer in Windows XP) or double click by the corresponding icon on the desktop. A list of available disks will be displayed in the window that opens. In the "Devices with removable media" section, find the "Reader" disk and remember (better write it down on a piece of paper) what letter the operating system assigned to this disk. In the example below, the Reader drive is assigned the letter "K":

Next, you need to check the Reader disk for file system errors and fix them. Errors could occur when the device was disconnected from the computer incorrectly (without using the Safely Disable Devices feature). If you have ever previously turned off a device “just like that,” then it is necessary to check and correct errors. To carry out the test, launch the command line as an administrator. Click "Start" - "All Programs" - "Accessories". Right-click on "Command Prompt" and select "Run as administrator":

In the window that opens, type the disk check command - “chkdsk X: /f” (without quotes), where “X” is the letter assigned by the system to the Reader disk (previously, you looked at what letter was assigned to your Reader disk and wrote it down on a piece of paper). The "/f" option means that any errors found will be corrected automatically. Press the "Enter" key. Here's what it should look like (in our case, the Reader drive was assigned the letter "K"):

After the check is completed, the window command line will look something like this:

Close the window with the cross in the upper right corner or type the command "exit". Now you can start flashing the firmware.

To update Sony firmware from one of the versions 1.0.00.09010, 1.0.00.09270, 1.0.02.10280, 1.0.03.11140, 1.0.04.12210 to version 1.0.05.11130, you must have the previously downloaded file PRS-T1_Updater_1.0.05.11 130.exe. To update the firmware from version 1.0.00.11041 to 2.0.00.14070, you must have the file PRS-T1_UPDATER_2.0.00.14070.exe.

Close any programs that may be accessing the Reader drive. Reader for PC, if you have it installed, should also be closed. It's best to close all programs altogether. Open "Computer" ("My Computer" in Windows XP), right-click on the executable file and select "Run as administrator":

Follow the instructions that appear in the program window. The duration of the firmware is approximately 10-15 minutes. Upon completion of the firmware, a message should appear on the computer screen stating that the firmware was successfully completed, and the indicator of your device should either turn off or glow solid red. Disconnect the device from the cable (in in this case There is no need to use "Safe Shutdown" and check the result by accessing "Settings - About - Device Information - Version".

Next, we will tell you how to flash a device with proprietary software version 1.0.05.11130 to alternative packages from boroda, rupor and amutin (what are the differences between these firmwares - read the article Comparison of firmware from amutin, boroda and rupor). In case you want to install the Apps2SD package from rupor, first flash your device with one of the alternative packages “Absolutely minimal root” from rupor, “Minimal Root Set” from boroda or “PRS-T1 Flasher minimal” from amutin. Links to pages where you can download alternative application packages can be found in our section Firmware, installing applications.

Procedure for installing firmware from different authors practically no different. Packages from boroda are distributed in zip format archives, packages from rupor are distributed in 7z (7zip) format archives. A suitable archiver, for example WinRar, must be installed on your system. After unzipping, in both cases you need to run the flash_reader.bat file. Packages from amutin are distributed in self-extracting archives (files with the .exe extension). After unpacking the archive from amutin, you need to run the RunMe.exe file.

To install, for example, any package from rupor, open "Computer" ("My Computer" in Windows XP), find the file you downloaded containing the required firmware, right-click on it and select "Extract files":

As the location where you should extract files from the archive, specify the root of drive C (type "C:\") and click "OK":

Close any programs that may be accessing the Reader drive. Reader for PC, if you have it installed, should also be closed. It's best to close all programs altogether. Open "Computer" ("My Computer" in Windows XP), find the unpacked archive on the C: drive in the "rupor-minimal" folder, open the folder, right-click on the flash_reader.bat file and select "Run as administrator" :

Be patient. The duration of the firmware can be up to 15 minutes. Have lunch, watch the news on TV. During this time, your device will reboot several times. Upon completion of the firmware, the device screen will display home page(Home), and the indicator will either remain solid red or be extinguished. Disconnect the device from the computer (in this case, you do not need to use "Safe Disconnection"), check the version of the installed package ("Settings - About the device - Device information - Version", section "Root & Mods") and its functionality.

If you decide to install the PRS-T1 Flasher minimal package (or the PRS-T1 Flasher recovery package) from amutin, do the following. Open "Computer" ("My Computer" in Windows XP), find the .exe file you downloaded and double-click on it. The "Self-extracting WinRar archive" window will open. Specify the root of the C: drive ("C:\") as the destination folder and click "Extract":

When you finish unpacking, be sure to close all programs that may be accessing the Reader disk. Reader for PC must also be closed. It's best to close all programs altogether. Open "Computer" ("My Computer" in Windows XP), find the unpacked archive on drive C: in the folder "PRS-T1_Flasher_minimal_1.71" (instead of "1.71" there may be other numbers, depending on the version of the package you are installing). In the case of a recovery package, the folder name will be different - “PRS-T1_Flasher_recovery_1.0.05.11130”, open the folder and right-click on the RunMe.exe file. Select "Run as administrator":

The duration of the firmware can be from 10 to 20 minutes. The process takes the longest when installing PRS-T1 Flasher minimal versions of the 1.xx family, since ColorDict dictionaries, which occupy a significant amount of space, are copied into memory. Do not click anything on your device or computer until the flashing is complete. During this time, your device will reboot several times. Upon completion of the firmware, the Home page will be displayed on the screen, and the indicator will either be constantly lit in red or will be extinguished. Disconnect the device from the computer (there is no need to use "Safe Disconnection"), check the version of the installed package ("Settings - About the device - Device information - Version" in the "Root & Mods" section) and its functionality.

After installing all the necessary packages, the folders created during unpacking to the C: drive can be deleted. You also need to restore your User Account Control settings and restart your computer.

Are you asking a question for the first time? Read "How to ask the right question." Be sure to indicate the model name, firmware version, name and version of the application package. Describe what actions led to the device not working correctly.

The new book from Sony, on the one hand, is similar to the old models, but, in fact, is the founder of a new direction. It’s strange, but on the company’s American website there are no other readers (we’re talking about the PRS series), only T1 in different variations. Actually, the model is called Reader Wi-Fi, apparently they decided to make life easier for users. This good practice. And the book itself evokes exceptional positive emotions, if you do not take into account some of the roughness inherent in Sony books, this primarily concerns formats.

Design, construction

For lately More than a dozen books have already passed through my hands; you can find reviews on the website. I said and continue to say, if you like good things, then you should choose Amazon and Sony e-readers, everything else can support a bunch of formats, work longer and be better than Kindle or PRS in all respects. But you won’t get the feeling of the thing in your hands. This is a harsh market reality, the design of readers for the most part is absent as a class, the same gray crafts. In principle, an e-reader has long become a household tool, and you are unlikely to think about the appearance of the microwave - but the reader is probably in your hands more often. Accordingly, I would personally choose the best that is on the market, and according to appearance including.

The book in question comes in a very compact package, literally not a single extra millimeter. No huge boxes. The kit includes everything you need, unfortunately, there is no network adapter, no cover. But there is a stylus, although when working with the screen it is quite possible to do without it. The first thing you notice is that the book is very small and can easily fit in a jacket pocket. It will be winter soon, and everyone in Russia will go to outerwear. When the reader is in sleep mode, the cover of the book you are reading is displayed on the screen. The body is made of glossy black plastic, the back is velvety material, it is very pleasant to hold the gadget in your hands. There is a metal insert under the display; the case does not creak when compressed. On the bottom end there is a microUSB connector, a minijack, on the left end there is a slot for a microSD memory card, covered with a plug.

I want to praise Sony designers; on the one hand, there are similarities with old models. On the other hand, oddly enough, the PRS-T1 has its own face, the book is not like anything else, it is pleasant to hold in your hands. The thing is as it is. Not so thin, it’s more of a visual effect due to the beveled edges, but even the buttons here are made wisely, in some ways they even resemble the PRS-T1 Sony smartphones Ericsson.

Dimensions 111 x 172 x 9 mm, weight 168 grams. The screen is made flush with the body; the glossy plastic around it naturally gets dirty, but this is not very noticeable. Apparently, they decided to reinforce the area under the display with metal, since the buttons are located there. In addition to the black book, there is also a red, white, and white with rhinestones. The official website has several branded accessories, these are illuminated cases, chargers, gift cards.

Display

The display diagonal (Pearl is used here) is six inches, resolution 600 x 800 pixels, 16 shades of gray, Clear Touch Infrared Technology is supported. What is it and why is it necessary? For example, familiar gestures for zooming in are supported; just “spread” the page with your fingers. True, there is a pitfall here: a page symbol and an enlargement icon appear in the lower right corner, and to get rid of this you need to press the menu button. You can also “tap” and hold your finger on any word, a link to a dictionary with a transcript will appear at the bottom of the screen, plus a search menu in Wikipedia or Google, adding a note, highlighting.

In my opinion, the screen is close to ideal. Not big and not small, contrasting, there are wide possibilities for choosing the size and type of font. For example, if in the old books with dimensions everything was military-style, one-two and done, then here there are already eight “divisions”. At the same time, by playing with font types, you can easily achieve the ideal display for your loved one.

Control

At the bottom there is a power button and a Reset button hidden in the body. Below the screen there are buttons for scrolling, going to the main menu, going back, calling up a menu for a particular program. There are no volume buttons. The screen is very convenient to use, handwriting input is supported, here you will need the stylus included in the kit. You can type website addresses on the keyboard with your finger without any problems, the delays are minimal. In general, the impression is created as if working with a smartphone. Interesting experience.

But for a book, the ease of flipping when you hold the gadget with one hand is more important. Not everything is obvious here. For example, if you hold the PRS-T1 in right hand, it is more convenient to move from page to page by swiping your finger across the display. The pages turn through very quickly, it’s difficult to make a mistake, so everything is fine. But if you hold the book in your left hand, then it will be more convenient to use the buttons; I really liked the precise, soft movement. It can be seen that they worked hard on the buttons and on the pressing force.

There is a miniature light indicator next to the power button, it doesn’t hurt the eyes, and is generally almost invisible.

Browser and Wi-Fi

The book has Wi-Fi and, accordingly, has a browser. Not only is there a browser, but this browser can be used. It quickly scales sites, loading does not require a moment of silence with a cigarette and coffee, information is displayed correctly, thanks to multitouch support it is easy to “spread” the page to look at something more carefully. The book quickly detects access points, remembers passwords, and automatically connects to a familiar network when it is in the access zone. In principle, Wi-Fi support is needed, it seems, in order to go and buy books in the branded Reader Store; for Russia this is not particularly relevant. But there are links to public libraries and Google Books.

Additional features

The book has a player, covers are displayed, everything is like old Sony readers, typical functionality. I don't think owners will listen to music all the time. Also, creating notes, a program for drawing or writing any plans to take over the world - it is best to write with a stylus. A dictionary, a program for viewing images, everything is like the previous books.

The menu contains links to purchased periodicals and books, the covers of books and the last one opened are displayed on the desktop, in the upper part there are indicators of battery charge and Wi-Fi on; it’s a pity that the time is not displayed. When you read, the indicators are not visible at all, this is strange. If you want to read the instructions for using the book, then look for the manual right among the books, it is not included in the set.

Formats and books

I received an American sample without the Russian language, I think the craftsmen will soon take care of this. The virtual keyboard is English, and so on. Supports ePub, PDF, TXT formats, I tried uploading several ePub books downloaded from the web. As you can see, covers and titles in Russian are displayed correctly, and there are no problems with reading. The formatting, as always with Sony readers, is a little strange, the content is displayed. In short, everything is fine. You can do without conversion - of course, only if you do not have a huge library in FB2. I also tried loading a PDF into memory, a large instruction manual for Casio watches. The size is small, as you can see, in the menu you can switch the view to landscape, then the instructions are much more convenient to read. It’s just difficult to read something, the drawing is not very fast, it takes time. There is no position sensor here, which is not very good. After drawing, you can read the small letters, but then suddenly you can’t return to horizontal mode. Moreover, this only applies to PDF; with regular books in ePub everything is in order. In my opinion, T1 is not ideal for PDF, especially if you are interested in reading and using various documentation.

Memory

About 1.3 GB of memory is available to the user, supported microSD cards up to 32 GB. In my opinion, for most users, the built-in storage will be enough for the entire time they use the book, especially if they don’t fill the memory with music.

Opening hours

They promise a month of “life”, in my opinion, this is a good indicator - moreover, quite close to reality. The menu has an option to turn off the book completely, and there is also a sleep mode when the cover is displayed on the screen.

Conclusions

The book settings are simple, there is nothing special here. On average, a book in Moscow costs about nine thousand rubles. In the USA about 150 dollars. For now, we have the typical overpayment for a new product, then the prices will settle down.

The most main part review, summing up. I really enjoyed the book and am impressed with the work done at Sony. One of the few devices where everything is very smooth, smooth, fast and pleasant. Let's look at the pros:

  • Original design, good materials, assembly. The book fits easily into a jacket pocket, at least mine
  • Wonderful display, multitouch supported
  • Long time work offline
  • For the first time I see a normal browser in a book - moreover, it’s not difficult to download a book from the Internet and open it in a “reader”. Wonderful
  • The book is “fast”, this applies to leafing, working with the menu, and everything else - the delays are imperceptible
  • Everything is in order with the controls, you can scroll through both using buttons and using the capabilities of the touch display
  • Handwriting input is implemented well, it is quite possible to write short notes, memos, and draw up action plans
  • You can read files in ePub format without conversion, Russian language is supported

There are also disadvantages:

  • The time is not displayed in the indicator line; the battery charge indicator is not visible during reading
  • PDF reading is not implemented very well
  • Not all book formats are supported
  • The delivery set does not include a network adapter or a case.
  • Still, the plastic (both front and back) is easily soiled, keep in mind

It is with great pleasure that I recommend this book to you and I want to say one thing: Sony was able to collect all their many years of experience in one device. Simple menu, convenient format, cool design, great paper, the PRS-T1 is a pleasure to use. This little book will probably make you look at e-readers in a new way, especially if you have previously used some kind of Inchi and other inexpensive devices of the same type.
