The first day in a new home can be the most painful for a kitten (in terms of getting used to it), especially if it is not old enough. In this case, the golden rule applies: patience and more patience. A new environment, different smells, unfamiliar people - all this is a big stress for the baby. Like any other cub separated from its mother, it may cry for the first hours in a new place. Night time will be the most difficult. But, as a rule, by the end of the second day, with the right and friendly attitude, the kitten has already become quite comfortable and forgets about its sorrows.
Each kitten is an individual, therefore there are no rules of care and education that are the same for all. There are only general points that must be adhered to.
Home safety
A small kitten, like a child, is very curious and loves to climb into the most unexpected places, from which it can sometimes be difficult to lure or pull it out. Therefore, you should carefully consider where there may be corners that are difficult for humans to reach, into which a kitten can easily climb, and try to limit access there (at least at first). And constantly ensure that the baby cannot eat anything harmful (small objects and toys, garbage). In a word, the well-known motto “cleanliness is the key to health” also applies to kittens.
By poking its curious nose into all corners, the kitten has a huge chance to sniff or pour (sprinkle) household chemicals on itself. Therefore, it is necessary to carefully close all bottles, boxes, and bags, or even better, hide them away.
All household members must walk especially carefully in the dark. or on the path of people. There have been cases when owners accidentally stepped on kittens, and it all ended quite badly. Toddlers can also often become trapped between the door and the door frame. Before closing the door, it is better to make sure several times that there is no small Skoda nearby.
Veterinary preventive measures
Vaccination for kittens is mandatory.The health of a kitten is entirely in the hands of a person.
- One of the main building blocks in building a healthy body is timely treatment of kittens, fleas, ticks and compliance with vaccination dates (read the article about).
- In addition, an important point in the normal development and growth of the baby is complete and high-quality food containing proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals in the required proportions.
- Dishes, toilets, houses and care items must be kept clean. After each feeding, the plate is washed, and the remaining food (of course, if it is not dry food) is thrown away. The kitten should always have clean drinking water, which needs to be changed as often as possible (at least once a day).
Hygiene procedures
From a very young age, the baby must be taught to carry out hygiene procedures. The older an untrained kitten gets, the more difficult it will be for him to endure “bullying” (of which he is absolutely sure) of himself.
Preferably every day. This will not only help get rid of dead hair, but will also contribute to the emotional bond between the owners and the pet. In addition, regular brushing will reduce the amount of hair ingested when washing. And as you know, phytobezoars often cause problems with the gastrointestinal tract.
Regularly shortening the claws will help keep furniture and wallpaper in excellent condition. In their natural habitat, cats wear down their claws on trees and asphalt. At home, you have to trim them yourself. To do this, you should purchase special scissors or tweezers. If a person is not confident in his abilities, then at first it is better to take the kitten for a procedure to a veterinary clinic, where they can show how to trim the claws correctly. Accustomed kittens, as a rule, do not resist much and withstand the entire process.
If too much sulfur has accumulated in them, then carefully clean it out with a cotton swab or swab. During the examination, attention is also paid to the presence of pain or anything unusual (redness, swelling, pimples, etc.).
Eyes and nose are cleaned only if crusts or other contaminants are visually detected.
Frequently bathing kittens and, in general, cats is not recommended. It is enough to do this once every 3-6 months, but no more than 6 times a year (especially if there is no special need for this). During bathing, sebum is washed off from the surface of the skin along with dirt, which protects the skin and coat from the adverse effects of external factors. Frequent bathing can cause your furry pet to eventually turn into a hairless cat. During water procedures, it is important to avoid getting water into the ears; failure to comply with this rule can lead to serious otitis media in the kitten. And one more thing: you need to bathe only with special zoo shampoos.
Toilet training a kitten
This question is probably one of the most difficult in the matter of education. Owners go to great lengths to teach their pet to go to relieve itself in a strictly defined place. There is no specific advice (see articles and). Each person must independently find the right approach to their pet. The most important thing is that you cannot scold or beat a kitten for an unexpected incident.
- If the kitten constantly goes about his business in the same place, then you can temporarily place a tray with filler there. As soon as the baby gets used to it and understands what this box is for, it can be moved to the toilet or bathtub (where the tray was originally supposed to be placed).
- Another way is to blot the area of embarrassment with a napkin or toilet paper, which you place in a tray with filler. Bring the kitten next. Perhaps instinctively he will start digging, and next time he will do the job where it needs to be.

“One of the clients simply left it in the tissue box. Petco's policy is not to take care of orphaned kittens, so they called me and I came as quickly as I could,” Hannah said.

Returning home on a December evening, Irina heard a quiet voice coming from the trash can. The woman could not pass by, she stopped, looked into the tank and saw a box in which a very small kitten was sitting and crying.
The woman called for help from people passing by to get the kitten from the alphatera. When the baby was free, the savior immediately took him to her home to feed and warm him up.
As it turned out, it was a cat, she was only a couple of weeks old. Accordingly, the baby had to be fed on a schedule every two hours. But the woman worked and could not keep up with the feeding schedule, so she decided to turn to concerned residents for help through social networks.
And a woman responded to the request and agreed to look after the baby. Irina named the baby Marusya and gave her up for temporary foster care.
But two weeks later, circumstances changed, and Irina was again forced to look for new hands for Marusya, since the woman who took the kitten for foster care had changed family circumstances.
The kitten was not very lucky in finding a “temporary home” and in two months he was with three different owners. When the baby was back with Irina, it was no longer a baby, but a young, independent cat.
Irina says that Marusya has transformed from a quiet kitten into a playful, cheerful, energetic cat who will find entertainment and toys everywhere.
Irina even wanted to keep the cat at home, but her relationship with the old resident of the house, the old cat, did not work out.
The sad events and two months of wandering finally ended and very soon Marusya found a permanent home and loving owners! Now her life is full of love, care, fun games and entertainment!
