The ideological foundation of Nazism and fascism was laid by secret societies long before the emergence of the Nazi state in Germany. One of these societies, with which the emergence of a “secret doctrine” at the top of the Third Reich was associated, was the Ahnenerbe. Early 1925 - Hitler was released from prison, where he had been imprisoned after the Beer Hall Putsch of 1923. In prison he whiled away his time with Hess, a former assistant to Professor Haushoffer. The Ahnenerbe headquarters were located in the Bavarian city of Weischenfeld. This society for the study of "the paths trodden by the ancestors" was founded by Friedrich Hilyier in 1933. He was a friend of the Swedish explorer Sven Hedin, who was closely associated with Haushofer. It should be noted that back in 1926, a small colony of Indians and Tibetans settled in Berlin and Munich. So, around 1931, an expedition (probably the first) of 5 people was sent to the Himalayas. The Nazis hoped to find not only genetic material there, catching “Aryan” bees, ants and horses. They were looking for Shambhala and teachers of higher powers, and also wanted to find minerals, in particular uranium, plutonium, strontium and oil. Unfortunately, no reports or reliable information about their trip could be found. It is only known that at the end of 1934 - beginning of 1935, only three returned from it (among them E. Schaeffer). 1935 – the second expedition took place. It was financed by the Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences (America) and partly by Germany, and was headed by SS officer E. Schaeffer. He became the author of a number of brilliant discoveries in the field of the animal world of the Himalayas and was even honored to speak at the Asian Society of the Himalayas. On July 17, 1940, on the instructions of the Fuhrer based on the order of the Chief of the Wehrmacht High Command dated July 5, 1940, Rosenberg created the Einsatzstab, which had branches in all major cities of Europe. The use of living people for inhumane experiments was not the only point of contact between the organization and the SS. The genealogies compiled for any leader of the Reich were an instrument of pressure and blackmail in the hands of Reichsführer SS Heinrich Himmler. From the point of view of Nazi racial theory, the presence of Slavs or Jews in the family tree was compromising material. All these facts were included in Himmler's dossier. The SS men, members of the “Heritage of the Ancestors,” oversaw the project to create a “weapon of retaliation” - the V-2. By the end of its activity, the Ahnenerbe was a large bureaucratic machine, like an octopus covering a variety of areas of activity.

History knows a huge number of secret societies, but perhaps the most mysterious organization remains the Nazi society “Ahnenerbe”, which translated means “Heritage of the Ancestors”. The full name is “The German Society for the Study of Ancient German History and the Heritage of Ancestors.”

The truth about Ahnenerbe has long been eclipsed by myths. Some imagine the activities of this organization based on the films “The Last Crusade” and “Ark of the Covenant” from the Hollywood saga about Indiana Jones, others - based on newspaper gossip.

The newspaper “Pravda”, for example, wrote at one time that a burial place of SS soldiers and officers was found in Ukraine, on which doctors from Ahnenerbe performed lethal experiments, trying to find their “third eye” and understand the psychophysical capabilities of true Aryans. And they supposedly found it. However, there was nothing of the kind. But, unfortunately, the true story of the Ahnenerbe is even worse.

The prerequisite for the emergence of “Ahnenerbe” was the book “The Origin of Humanity,” written in 1928 by Hermann Wirth, a recognized expert on the secrets of the ancient Germans. It described two so-called proto-races of humanity: the race of the North (“Hyperboreans”) and the race of the South (immigrants from the continent of Gondwana). The “Nordic” race of the North consisted of “true people” (“supermans”), highly spiritual individuals possessing a true language and enlightened consciousness. The race of the South consisted of people of a lower standard or simply “subhumans” - animal-like creatures. It is not difficult to guess which of these races Wirth classified the Germans as.

It is now hardly possible to name the exact date of the creation of “Ahnenerbe”; officially this organization arose by personal order of Himmler in 1935, but it was preceded by several organizations similar in their activities: “Thule”, “Vril”, “Hermanenorden”, as well as , in some way, the Order of the Illuminati, the “Order of the Eastern Temple” and Wandervogel. Directly or indirectly, they formed the basis for the creation of the “Heritage of the Ancestors”.

Initially, the task of the Ahnenerbe was limited to studying the history of the German people, their customs, traditions, etc., but soon this organization took up other areas in its work. Wirth became the president of the society, the sponsor was the NSDAP ideologist and Himmler’s spiritual mentor Richard Darre, and the curator was Himmler himself.

In 1935, Himmler declared the goals of the Ahnenerbe: “To seek the localization, thought, action, heritage of the Indo-Germanic race and to communicate to the people in an intensive form the results of this search. The accomplishment of this task must be distinguished by methods of scientific precision.” As L. Povel and J. Bergier note in this regard, “the entire German rational organization was put at the service of the irrational.” Particular emphasis was placed not only on studying the history of the German people, their traditions and heritage, but also on the increased spirituality of the Aryans.

The Third Reich was by its very nature a racist state, and the “problem of kinship” was very acute in it, but still, why did the SS leaders need to delve so deeply into the past, and even the spiritual one? The answer will be unexpected: contrary to popular misconception, Hitler’s ideology had more “international” than narrowly nationalistic features.

The Nazis believed in that northern, Aryan proto-race to which humanity owes all its victories and discoveries. Due to social and natural disasters, the Aryans scattered throughout the world, which led to the mixing of their “noble blood” with the “plebeian blood of inferior peoples.” And in order to build an ideal state, it is necessary not only to destroy all the main “blood poisoners” - Jews and Gypsies, but also to gather under its banner all owners of “pure” blood - no matter in whose veins it flows: a German or, say, a Tibetan .

The “nationalism” of the Nazis, in particular, consisted in the fact that they considered Germany to be the place of residence of the largest number of “true Aryans.” It must be said that the rest of the Indo-European peoples also shared a certain percentage of “supermen” - and not only those “racially close” (Scandinavians and English), but also everyone else, even the Slavs. The last one is minuscule, naturally. Hermann Wirth's views on the origins of humanity later became the basis for the notorious “racial hygiene”.

But there was another reason for delving into the past, which brought the Ahnenerbe to life. Certified agronomists Himmler and Darre considered themselves professional “breeders” and at first focused exclusively on “racial technology.” They were going to raise “supermen” like elite wheat or breeding bulls. In RuSHA (not to be confused with RSHA. RuSHA - Main Directorate for Race and Resettlement under the SS) mechanical methods for selecting “true Aryans” have long been developed: measuring skulls, compiling tables of eye and hair color, etc. But the leaders understood: something was missing here. Not enough spirit... And one more misfortune: none of the leaders of the Reich fit truly Aryan parameters! Strong, tall, with an excellent figure, blue-eyed blondes with golden skin, a “long skull” and thin lips were completely absent from them.

Just look at the photo of Himmler himself, whom his former boss Gregor Strasser aptly and inventively called “a half-dead shrew.” And it’s stupid to think that no one noticed this. So, once during a social event, the Berlin beauty Frau Best asked the Reichsführer point-blank how he and other party “comrades” explained such a paradox of the discrepancy between the standards of the “breed” and their own appearance. The SS chief replied: “Appearance is not the main thing. I, like the Fuhrer, have a truly Aryan brain and spirit.” That's why the emphasis was placed on spirituality - since the appearance let us down.

The secrets of the “spirit and brain”, capable of “producing” Himmler’s “shrew” and Goebbels’ “monkey” into the true heirs of Odin and Siegfried, were what the “Ahnenerbe” had to deal with.

I would like to especially note that the “Ahnenerbe” employed mainly “popular ideologists”, and there were practically no real scientists in it. Many of the views of Wirth and other similar “experts” were loudly condemned by true scientists. In addition, most of Wirth's colleagues did not share the fascist views of the NSDAP. All this led to his resignation in 1937. In the same year, Himmler included the Ahnenerbe into the SS, which he had planned to do for a long time - with the goal of completely subordinating the organization to himself, his beloved.

Since 1937, Ahnenerbe was listed as a department for the management of concentration camps. Wolfram Sievers, one of the ideologists of racism of the Third Reich, became the General Secretary of the Ahnenerbe. After the end of the war, he was hanged by the Nuremberg Tribunal, but most of the developments and artifacts were never found (or “officially” were not found). Perhaps the development continued in another organization. It is curious that when the question of where Sievers worked and what he did came up at the tribunal, the interrogation was immediately stopped.

Sievers became a kind of connecting link between the “scientists” and Himmler. Having taken “Ahnenerbe” under personal control, Himmler was now the owner of such important things for those times as the pedigrees of almost all SS leaders, which could at any moment, if the Reichsfuhrer wanted, turn out to be a formidable weapon against his colleagues. If there was at least one Jew or Slav in the family tree, then their SS descendant could no longer sleep peacefully.

In 1939, Ahnenerbe was assigned new tasks, and the organization began to engage in experimental medicine. There was no shortage of experimental “rabbits”: the overcrowded concentration camps were an excellent testing ground. The main “ace” in experiments on people was Sigmund Rascher, who to this day is considered the prototype of the Nazi criminal doctor.

As a responsible executor, he took care of the most “pleasant” conditions for conducting experiments, as evidenced by an excerpt from his letter to Himmler: “Auschwitz is more suitable for conducting such tests than Dachau, since the climate in Auschwitz is somewhat colder, and also because in In this camp, experiments will attract less attention due to its larger area - the subjects scream loudly when frozen.”

Rascher worked for a long time for the benefit of Nazi medicine. He would have “worked” some more, but Himmler was enraged by the news that in his free time, Rascher was involved in child abductions on the streets of Munich. The doctor passed off the eight babies he stole as children from his 52-year-old wife. Allegedly, the miracle pills he developed inspired Caroline Rusher to give birth to twins and triplets of “true Aryan” boys! By order of Himmler, the heroine mother was hanged in Ravensbrück, and the pioneering father in 1944 received a bullet in the back of the head in the very Dachau where he tortured prisoners.

But the Anenerbeans did not limit themselves to history and medicine; they extended their tentacles into almost all areas of life. The Nazis believed that members of the “non-Aryan race” had no right to possess anything valuable - simply because they were not worthy of it. Therefore, while waging war, conquering and enslaving foreign countries, they paid special attention to their plunder. In addition to the simple appropriation of values, various objects were sought out - evidence of the superiority of the Aryan race: archaeological materials, artifacts, runes, writings of the ancient Aryans, etc.

But one of the main and most mysterious areas of work of the Ahnenerbe was the occult and magic. An outstanding “specialist” in this field was Karl-Maria Wiligut. He was also called “Himmler’s Rasputin” - for his enormous influence on the Reichsführer SS Himmler. He claimed to be the keeper of ancient runic tablets with mysterious writings of the Aryan forefathers, passed down in his family from generation to generation, which aroused the interest of the mystically minded elite of the Reich.

It was rumored that because of these tablets, the Pope himself placed a curse on the Wiligut family in the Middle Ages. It is interesting that even in the official lists of SS leaders he is listed under the pseudonym Weistor (one of the names of the Scandinavian god Odin). The real name of this person is translated as “god of will.” According to mystical terminology, this is synonymous with the concept of “fallen angel”. The roots of the Wiligut family are lost in the darkness of centuries. On his family coat of arms, which was first found in the 12th century, two swastikas were depicted.

They said that this man had extraordinary abilities for magic. The SS immediately became interested in this, because fascist leaders had long been looking for ways not only to physically, but also spiritually enslave a person and control his consciousness. In their opinion, magic could help them with this. As a result, Hitler's Germany became the only country in the world where activities in the field of mysticism were actively funded by the state.

All this work did not start from scratch. In particular, it is known that Germany used psychics in the intelligence service not only during the Second World War, but also during the First. The so-called dowsers were also used, and successfully. They detected mines and marked the boundaries of minefields. During the First World War, in parts of the German army, dowsers were searching for underground water for the needs of the army. Since 1932, dowsers were already trained at the military engineering school in Versailles.

Karl Wiligut described the laws of the ancient Aryans, their religious rituals, and military organization. The source of information, he said, was his ancestral memory. He received Hitler's personal order to create a new religion for the New Germany, and actively worked on this task. But he was not destined to present his brainchild to Hitler: he was fired. The reason for his dismissal was the information he concealed that in his youth he was in a psychiatric hospital. “The work” was continued by a certain E. Bergman and created the basis of a new religion - he developed a number of rituals and ceremonies of true Aryans. First they were to be practiced by the SS and members of the NSDAP, and then by the entire “great people”. But these plans were not destined to come true: the war began.

During the war, the Anenerbevians were not left out of work: they were actively developing psychophysical (psychotropic) weapons, the action of which was supposed to be aimed at controlling human consciousness. Various scientists and researchers have written about this repeatedly. They claimed that the Nazis had succeeded in developing such a weapon, although only partially.

As these scientists argued, it could take ten years to finalize and create a full-fledged psychotropic weapon, but within a year the Allied forces entered Germany. There is information that after the capture of Germany by the Allied forces, the ruins of strange structures were discovered, zealously guarded by the Nazis and blown up before the inevitable capture of the Allies. It was not possible to thoroughly find out what exactly was there, but there is confidential information that Hitler placed there those same techno-magical devices that made it possible to control the will of a person, and created on the basis of ancient runic tablets of the Wiligut family, which described previously unknown physical phenomena.

Because of the potential of such weapons, its development was classified not only by Germany, but, subsequently, by the Allied forces, which actively recruited German scientists. There is also information that American troops were able to capture an experimental device and part of the employees involved in its development, while Soviet troops managed to capture part or even all of the documentation on these developments. And who knows, it is possible that over the past decades psychotropic weapons have been brought to the required standard.

For the first time, the development of psychophysical weapons became known thanks to the book of Karl Maur, one of the leading employees of Ahnenerbe. The book was called “Thor’s Hammer,” and it was about the Thor project. This project was precisely aimed at developing psychophysical weapons.

The operating principle of technomagical devices was based on torsion fields. With the help of these fields it was supposed to influence directly the nerve centers and the pituitary gland and thus control the human will. Part of the achievement of the goal of controlling people was that the experienced apparatus could already suppress the will of a person, so that he could not perform any actions, or it was possible to force people to perform the simplest actions. Things have not gone further yet, but where the first step is, there is a second.

Another direction of the Ahnenerbe’s work was to carry out expeditions in search of secret knowledge, records confirming the “chosenness” of the Aryan race, and various artifacts designed to replenish Hitler’s collection of world values. There are known expeditions to Scandinavia, Karelia, Iceland, the Middle East, the Baltics, Abkhazia and other countries.

One of the first expeditions was sent in search of an ancient relic - the Holy Grail. According to Christian legend, the Holy Grail is the cup from which Christ’s disciples received communion at the Last Supper, and after the crucifixion, Christ’s blood was collected into the same cup. But Hitler had his own opinion on this matter: he believed that the Grail was actually a thing more ancient than Christianity in general, it was about ten thousand years old, and as a result, it could not be a Christian shrine. Well, how could it be otherwise? After all, recognizing Christianity meant recognizing Jews! And in this simple way, the Fuhrer “cleansed” the honor of the Grail from the Jewish past.

Perhaps he came up with such an explanation in order to get rid of an internal logical contradiction: he was tossing between intolerance towards Christianity and a passion for probably its most famous artifact. The myth of the Grail, which gives power over the whole world, could not help but interest Hitler; he dreamed of finding this relic, recreating something similar to the Order of the Round Table, whose knights devoted their lives to searching for this mysterious thing.

According to another Nazi version, the Grail is not a cup, but a stone with runic inscriptions that conceal the true history of mankind, “not stained by Jews,” and even the true religion of the Aryan race. Be that as it may, the Fuhrer was determined to find the artifact. The Holy Grail was believed to be held by the Cathars, a heretical sect that arose in southern France in the 12th century. The Cathars believed that there were two principles in the world, two gods - good and evil.

The creation of the world, by the way, was attributed precisely to the evil god. The Cathars denied Christian paraphernalia - the cross, icons, they did not recognize the sacraments of the Catholic Church. They also rejected the existence of heaven and hell, as well as the doctrine of the Last Judgment. The Cathars developed their own rituals, their own system of symbols, and one of the central places in the system of sacred symbols was occupied by the Holy Grail, which the Cathars worshiped. The Nazis believed that the Grail was not something spiritual, but a completely material object.

The search for the Grail was carried out by Otto Rahn, who had been fascinated by the history and faith of the Cathars since childhood. According to Cathar legend, the Grail was located in the main sanctuary of Montsegur. After the destruction of the Cathars by the “crusade” launched by Pope Innocent II, and the fall of the Montsegur sanctuary, the Grail disappeared. Having gone to Montsegur, Otto Rahn found unknown rooms and passages leading to the sacred caves. But, despite these amazing finds, Ran declared that he could not find the Grail, and canceled the expedition.

The fact that Ran gave up the search so abruptly is quite surprising considering his long-standing interest. This gave rise to several versions: he could really be disappointed and stop searching, but he could also find the Grail. But why didn’t he make his discovery public then? Here we can only guess: the Grail could contain information that Ran considered too shocking and decided not to disclose it. The second option is that he used the Grail for himself personally. How is unclear because no one really knows what the Holy Grail is. A curious and thought-provoking fact speaks in favor of the version that the Grail was found after all: Rahn, when crossing the Franco-German border, indicated a strange item in the customs declaration - “a copper boiler for a high-power steam plant.” It’s hard to imagine why an archaeologist would need such a cauldron? Was this the Holy Grail camouflaged as a cauldron?

The secret Nazi expedition to Abkhazia is quite interesting. This territory of the USSR was of particular interest to the Nazis, and they sent selected SS troops there. According to Ahnenerbe employees, it was in Abkhazia that there was a source of living water, so necessary for the gene pool of true Aryans. From this same living water, blood plasma was allegedly created for the “chosen” children of Germany, born as part of the Lebensborn (“Source of Life”) program, which was carried out under the control of Himmler himself. According to this program, throughout the Third Reich, women of “purely Aryan origin” with good health were selected to bear children with SS officers.

Lake Ritsa, where this “special supply” was drawn from, was located high in the mountains in a very inaccessible place. But this did not stop Hitler. On his instructions, a road was built there in 1936, which was fiercely guarded by the SS mountain division. All this, one must think, was done with the approval of Stalin, because it is difficult to imagine that in 1936 the Nazis ruled the territory of the USSR, with whom there may be peace, but they were still foreigners, and no one knew it. From this we can draw far-reaching conclusions... Later, in 1942, an underground base for small submarines was created there.

The 1939 expedition to Antarctica was just as mysterious. Hitler considered this continent the ancestral home of the Nordic race. Moreover, it was assumed that Antarctica is the same legendary Atlantis, known to us from ancient myths as the homeland of the highest civilization of all times and peoples. In addition, the Third Reich needed territories to locate its secret bases. And, according to legend, in 1945, Hitler, being in perfect health and without committing any suicide, left for the region of permafrost, where he died safely in 1971.

But, perhaps, the Nazis were most attracted to Tibet - they tried to find the legendary Shambhala there. For this purpose, they brought in a young zoologist, Ernst Schaeffer, who had already become famous for his travels to the Pamirs, China and Siberia. After listening to his stories about the blue-eyed blond man from whom Genghis Khan descended, about the Aryan appearance of some tribes of Afghanistan and the ancient burial grounds of the “master race” in Tibet, Himmler exclaimed: “So these are our people!”

The first expedition to Tibet took place in 1938. The fanatical scientist Schaeffer, by the way, later served as the prototype for Ian Fleming of James Bond's main enemy, Ernst Blofeld. Schaeffer, without much difficulty, managed to bypass the ban of the authorities of British India, who controlled the approaches to the Himalayas, and made his way to Tibet. There he was received with open arms. The members of the expedition worked twenty hours a day: they filmed rituals in monasteries and simply everyday life in the holy capital, collected herbariums, and purchased all kinds of living creatures. Most of all, the Germans were interested in the Bon religion, which was preached by some Tibetan monks. This religion was considered the best “pass” to the other world; it was based on belief in evil spirits and the fight against them.

Considering the Tibetans to be “blood brothers,” specialist in “racial hygiene” Bruno Beger not only measured hundreds of Tibetan skulls with his compasses, but also persuaded several dozen of their owners to provide him with faces for casts. The Ahnenerbe was looking for evidence of an anatomical connection between the local aristocracy and the “Nordic race.”

Finally, the persistent Schaeffer even obtained permission to explore the Yarlung Valley, where, as legend has it, the first Tibetan rulers descended from heaven on a rope. There he expected to find traces of the notorious Shambhala. Whether he found it or not - history and the seeker himself are silent... It is only known that he returned to Berlin in triumph, bringing many artifacts to which Hitler attached special mystical significance. But Schaeffer definitely did not find the “snow Aryan” - a proto-Aryan who could survive only in high mountain regions.

Subsequently, Ahnenerbe constantly maintained contacts with Tibet and sent expeditions there in search of Shambhala; Numerous contacts were established with Tibetan monasteries. In 1945, Soviet troops entering Berlin were amazed to find thousands of corpses of Tibetans in SS uniforms. What the Tibetans did in Germany and why they sided with the SS is not known for certain. It is only known that the Tibetans very favorably accepted the expedition and the Hitler regime. It should be noted that neither the Soviet nor the British expeditions managed to establish such close and friendly relations with Tibet as Hitler did. What exactly caused such a friendly attitude of Tibetans towards the Nazis remains a mystery.

Much about the activities of the mysterious organization “Ahnenerbe” is still strictly classified. The mystical views of Hitler and his entourage arouse keen interest among contemporaries who want to figure out what really happened and what is mere fiction and legends. One thing is indisputable: even today there are many more questions about the activities and successes of Ahnenerbe than answers; it is absolutely clear that this organization is one of the most unusual and mysterious in its essence. And one of the most important: the Third Reich spent more to ensure its activities than the United States spent on creating an atomic bomb.
