The model appeared on the Russian market with a planned delay from North America, Japan and China. The new Camry for the Russian Federation, like its predecessor, is produced at the plant in Shushary, St. Petersburg. The eighth-generation Camry is built on the GA-K platform, which is a modification of the modular TNGA platform that also underpins the C-HR, Prius and Auris. The front suspension of the sedan is made on MacPherson struts, the rear has a multi-link mechanism.
The length, width, height of the Camry XV70 in the Russian specification are 4885, 1840 and 1455 mm, respectively. Wheelbase - 2825 mm. In terms of design, “our” Camry is no different from Camry for other markets. The exterior of the model was developed by Ian Cartabiano from the Californian Toyota studio. The architecture of the front panel of the cabin is designed with a focus on the driver; compared to its predecessor, the quality of finishing materials has improved, and the arrangement of levers and buttons has become more ergonomic. Three petrol engines are offered for Camry in the Russian specification:
2.0-liter 6AR-FSE (150 hp, 192 Nm);
2.5-liter 2AR-FE (181 hp, 231 Nm);
3.5-liter 2GR-FKS (249 hp, 356 Nm).
For the new Toyota Camry in Russia, seven fixed configurations and ten versions are offered. The basic “Standard” package is offered only for cars with a 2.0 liter engine. Its equipment includes LED optics (low and high beam, daytime running lights, fog lights), R16 alloy wheels with a full-size spare wheel on an alloy wheel, dual-zone climate control, push-button engine start, electric windows and mirrors, heated front seats and mirrors and rest zones for the windshield wipers, six airbags, VSC+ dynamic stabilization system, ERA-GLONASS emergency response device, audio system, leather trim for the automatic transmission selector. It has 17-inch wheels, a rearview camera with dynamic markings, keyless entry, a wireless phone charger, a knee airbag, a heated steering wheel, rear seats, windshield washer nozzles and the entire windshield, as well as the Toyota Safety Sense package. . This package includes a system for recognizing and informing the driver about road signs, lane control, monitoring and informing about driver fatigue, a frontal impact warning system with automatic braking function, adaptive cruise control, automatic switching of high beams to low beams.
The next “Prestige Safety” package additionally includes an air ionizer and a multimedia system with an 8-inch display and a JBL audio system. In addition, this version has 18-inch wheels. The version is equipped with electrically adjustable rear seats, three-zone climate control, and side airbags for both rows of seats. Also included is a 40:20:40 split rear seatback.
The most expensive version of Executive Safety is equipped with electric steering wheel adjustments, steering wheel gear shift paddles, ventilated front seats, four all-round cameras, a 10-inch head-up display, a blind spot monitoring system, and a reverse parking assist system with a visual warning function.
Toyota re-equipped the plant in Shushary for the production of the new Camry. The level of automation in the production of a new sedan at the Russian plant is 52%; for comparison, the production of the old model was only 30% automated. In the plastic parts workshop, unique Slush line equipment was installed for the production of a dashboard covered with a soft, pleasant-to-touch material.
When buying a new foreign car, our driver does not have much choice in terms of head units: either CarPlay from Apple or Android Auto from Google. And both services, to put it mildly, are not tailored to “our conditions.”
Toyota decided to rectify the situation and rolled out a business sedan, the PG of which is supplied with pre-installed Yandex.Navigator and accompanying domestic software “goodies”.
Thanks to the native support of the Yandex.Navigator application, car owners received the full functionality of the service: from laconic construction of routes taking into account road conditions and traffic jams, to instructions on speeding and accidents.
The developers also provided the ability to surf from the on-board computer screen. A tablet version of Yandex Browser is built into the system shell.
As a “duplicate” navigation service (with the additions “Chat”, “Friends”, “Traffic”, etc.), the market-proven Navitel Navigator with loaded maps of Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus is offered.
Under the hood is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine. The equipment chain includes electric mirrors and seats, xenon headlights, and dual-zone climate control.
The new product also received an improved and adapted infotainment system. The Exclusive model received a head unit (GU) with an impressive 10-inch screen. The GU operates on the Android mobile operating system with support for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless communication channels.
Special modification of the sedan Toyota Camry Exclusive, aimed at the Russian market and the needs of domestic drivers, was presented in early August.
The sedan price starts from 1,669,000 rubles.
