I read the report in the club about buying a car in the UAE, but practically nothing became clearer for me. We went to the 1st salon - we asked about Fortuner, they said only new ones, they asked the price of 101,000 dirhams, about $ 27,600, the salon is called idealcar. We didn’t really think about getting a new car because... Customs clearance is expensive ~600,000 rub. But I tried to calculate the price of the car using a customs calculator and after $22,000 it gave a customs clearance price of approximately 380,000 rubles. for a new one, customs clearance from 3 to 5 years 335,000 rub. This made me happy and I thought that the price that would be included in the invoice could be negotiated with the seller.
So, we began to walk around the market and look for Fortuners, but there weren’t many of them there.
The cars were from 2012, but with mileage; their prices were high, about $24,000. There were 2 cars at that price, but it was barely noticeable that both had broken rear doors, but they were made and painted.

Their market reminded me of ours on Kashirskoye, mainly resellers who keep prices on cars and do not intend to bargain, and most importantly, you can buy a damaged car there, but a repaired one. Therefore, having arrived in the Emirates and buying a used car, this prospect was not particularly pleasing and we decided to go again and look at a new car, only black. The owner and I get into the car, we go to some parking lot, there is a beige Fortuner, we look at it, I ask where the black one is, they tell me it’s exactly the same, only black, but it’s not here - it’s also new. We went back to the store to check out. At the same time, we agreed to change the standard radio to a DVD + installation of a rear view camera - the issue price is 390 USD.
As a result, with all the trading and taking into account that their bank takes 2% of the amount for transferring from the card, it came out to 103,000 dirhams or $28,000 with a tail. We called the Novorossiysk broker about customs clearance and he “delighted” us that customs clearance does not depend on the price of the car now, it worked before, and at the same time he gave us the phone number of a Russian-speaking guy who would help send the car to Russia. By the way, they offered to send the car to us in the salon to Russia, but we said that we would think about it. Their price is up to Astrakhan - 1750 USD.
We called a local guy, he said that he would send the car to Astrakhan without any problems for $1,400. On the day we receive the car from the store, he will come to us and pick it up. He asked how much they took it for and said that it could have been found cheaper for $26,700, but we decided that this always happens, but then we had to pay him for the search, taxi, etc. The moment came when it was time to receive the car - they called the seller and he set a time. We phoned a local guy (I don’t specifically mention his name so as not to unnecessarily slander the person).
In the evening we met at the seller’s and again went somewhere to pick up the car, when we arrived there was a black car covered in dust - the hood, fenders, and roof were covered with film. It turns out that the repairman here changed the radio and installed a rear view camera. A local guy with a device checked the thickness of the paint coating throughout the car - we were surprised: it’s new, but he says that new ones can be broken. The guy immediately offered to reupholster the interior in leather (the factory version comes with a cloth) for $1,200 and heated the front seats - we agreed. We never took the car for a ride - he stole it to reupholster the interior, and then send it to Astrakhan. We asked him how much his services would cost - nothing, I get it from the car shipping office.
Before our departure, we called our boyfriend, he said that we could see how it was re-strung and that tomorrow it would be sent to Astrakhan and in about a month it would arrive in Astrakhan.
Documents for the car: police paper and a copy of the invoice were given to him and we, joyful and happy, flew to Moscow: there was no car, there were no documents, no receipts either.
It was said that in Astrakhan we should contact a local broker and he would tell us when to come to Astrakhan to pick up the car and the agonizing days of waiting began. About 20 days passed, but there was no news - they started calling and we were told that the car was loaded onto a ferry in Iran, but its propeller had broken. A few days later we were informed that our car was already on another ferry; by the way, another broker reported this and offered his services and said that the ferry would arrive in Astrakhan in 5 days - in time it was already exactly a month from the day of our departure. We started tracking the route of our ferry on the Internet - the journey there is 3-5 days from Enzeli to Astrakhan, and then our nerves could no longer stand it and we left for Astrakhan because... parking at the temporary storage warehouse is free for 3 days, and then it’s scrap money, as we were told. We arrived in Astrakhan and looked on the Internet, our ferry stopped in the Turkmen Gulf and stood rooted to the spot for a whole week. We live in a hotel, the information from the broker is zero, he says that he doesn’t know anything why the ship is stationary, and suddenly we see on the Internet that our ship left the bay - it took another week to reach Astrakhan.
As a result, the car lasted 1.5 months.
There is no information from the guy in Dubai, there is no contact, the Astrakhan broker is silent like a partisan. Sometimes the thought even crept in that we would not have any car.
When the car was supposed to arrive in Astrakhan on Friday, the broker said that nothing was working on the weekend, and on Monday it would be scanned and only on Tuesday we would be able to register it.
So, two weeks of waiting in Astrakhan passed, Tuesday came, at two o’clock the registration began, the amount was 10,000 rubles. increased, it turned out that there was also 19,500 rubles for unloading, it turned out that the 2,000 rubles recycling fee that we paid in Moscow was not credited to the customs account - I had to pay there again, plus 5,000 rubles for the fact that I registered the car by proxy for my son (he broke his leg ), and a power of attorney cost 9,000 rubles (they took a notary to the hospital) was not needed. As a result, 45,000 rubles.
Then the broker complained that he had made no money.
At customs I met another poor fellow who also bought a Fortuner in Dubai and contacted the same broker in the Emirates, but he bought the car in December 2012 and received it with me on March 3, 2013. He also told me that he no longer thought about getting his own car. In addition, he sent new wheels in his car, but they did not arrive in Astrakhan - the guy could not find the ends. I saw his car in Dubai, when I looked at how it was covered in leather - the car was clean, when it arrived it was all dirty, both the body and the interior.

Many times I came to the conclusion that basically everything depends on the driver, and if the gasket is bad, then the car is no good.
On the way to Moscow, the traffic police stopped me 2 times, 1 time before Tambov - they asked about the car, suggested that it was better to go to Moscow not through Tambov, but through Voronezh. The road in front of Tambov and beyond is bad, the second time near Voronezh there is a document check.
The road was bad in front of Volgograd, in Volgograd itself and in some places, but the car did not give up. We drove 90-100 while overtaking 110-130.
When oncoming trucks, when overtaking trucks, the car does not throw. The brakes were reliable, there was no emergency braking, and they were predictable.

There is no point in comparing this car with a sedan on the highway, because... The car is all-wheel drive, especially with a transfer case - there’s no point in simply driving it at 160, it’s not the same vehicle.
It drives smoothly over bumps, drives beautifully around the city, but there is also no point in pulling away from a traffic light, although in traffic it is inferior in dynamics to few others. The seating in the car is comfortable, the side and front visibility is excellent. I didn’t notice the wretchedness of the plastic, as many have noted. The stove works well. They write about Emirati cars that they are not intended for our country. By the way, the car was assembled in Indonesia, delivered to Oman, and from there to the Emirates. At the factory, all fluids and oils are filled using standard Toyota technology for both heat and cold.
In general, having been in the shoes of people who drive cars for sale, we can say that their job is not very easy. Honest sellers, receiving a margin of 3-4 thousand dollars, are worth their money. 3 months of ordeal and suffering, 120 thousand rubles. divide by 3 months it turns out 40 thousand rubles. per month, not a lot, but a lot of nerves, time, and effort. I don’t mean salons.

Through Astrakhan it’s bad in winter - in the lower reaches of the Volga there is ice and ferries run poorly (December-March). Through Novorossiysk and St. Petersburg it is more expensive, but the cars go in containers and will be more intact, although no one is insured against anything. Don’t be afraid to drive from St. Petersburg, Novorossiysk, Astrakhan yourself - if you’ve traveled long distances, then go ahead - the main thing is not to fall asleep. You can drive alone. You don’t have to rely on the prices indicated above at 56t.e. - this car cost us.

The first generation of the car from 2005 to 2011

Toyota Fortuner is built on the basis of the Toyota Hilux pickup truck, and inherited the interior and suspension design from it. By default, the Fortuner can be either all-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive. By analogy with the Hilux, the cabin has seven seats.

The car was sold with various engines, which were carried over from older models: Prado and Lend Cruiser.

Toyota Fortuner is essentially a global model and was sold under other names in various countries. In the USA it was the Toyota 4Runner, in Japan the Toyota Hilux Surf, and in Europe the Prado (with significant external differences).

The following engines were installed on the first generation Fortuner:

petrol 2.7 liter with a power of 160 hp, with a torque of 241 Nm. The engine is not too large and powerful for such a heavy car, but the performance characteristics are quite adequate: acceleration to 100 km/h in 12 seconds, fuel consumption - 13.5 liters in the city and 9.3 liters on the highway.
diesel unit with a volume of 3 liters and a power of 163 hp. and a torque of 343 Nm. He was able to accelerate the Fortuner to 100 km/h in 11.7 seconds and consumed 11.4 liters of diesel fuel in the city and 7.1 liters on the highway.

Any of the engines could be equipped with all-wheel drive for an additional fee. There were two transmissions to choose from: a basic five-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic.

A light update was carried out in 2008. The radiator grille has changed, the front and rear optics have changed, now they were like on a Land Cruiser. The interior is no longer only black and has a light finish. Passengers in the second and third rows were able to control the weather through individual overhead consoles. The most important innovation was the introduction of a brake force distribution system in combination with all-wheel drive.

Fortuner also acquired powerful gasoline engines from Prado:

4.0 liters with a power of 249 hp (382 Nm). With such a unit, Fortuner shot to “hundreds” in almost 9 seconds, but consumed 16.7 liters in the city and 9.8 liters on the highway. Unlike other versions, this one was equipped with a 5-speed automatic.

Another diesel engine of a more modest volume also appeared:

2.5 liters with a power of 144 hp and a torque of 343 Nm, it was equipped with a manual transmission or the already well-known 4-speed automatic.

Second generation since 2011

After the first easy update, another one followed 3 years later. This time the overall dimensions have also changed (slightly):

The current restyling is aimed at maintaining interest in the model and, as before, all the lighting equipment of the car has been changed, if previously it was taken from the Land Cruiser, now from the updated Hilux. The headlights now have lensed optics. The bumpers and some body parts have been updated.

Plus, a version with an “adult” power plant from Land Cruiser appeared:

petrol unit with a volume of 4.6 liters and a power of 309 hp. and torque 439 Nm. With such power, the Fortuner turns into a sports car, with acceleration to 100 km/h in 7 seconds. Like the version with a 4-liter engine, it was equipped with a 5-speed automatic transmission. But due to high fuel consumption (18.4 liters and 11 liters in the city and on the highway, respectively) and expensive cost, the main markets received a model with such power coolly.
